I guess to be more clear, what I want to know is, lets say I have a website that has 1 million unique visits a day (Im just making up a number), How do I know what to charge for my ad space ? what defines how expensive I can charge companies to advertise on my website ? I mean, I know that anyone can pretty much ask whatever they want, but then no one will pay you whatever you want. But then if you ask for a too low price then you might not make a return for your costs. Im just confused, how does any website define their prices, according to what ?

Im new to this forums so I will answer something without really being informed. But does the auction in this forum represent the trends of the world market? I mean do companies like cocacola, sony etc come here to bid on ad space ?

    No,
Not the big companies. You have to go through like doubleclick or some other big advertising agency to get the huge complaines like that. You can just sell your ad spaces to other webmaters on the forums.

How many uniques do you get to your site per month?
And What is your site's niche?

    Thanks
    Mike

First, I would just sell a few spots for like 5$. Don't worry if that's too low it's a starting point. When the link/banner spot is active I would setup some kind of tracking script. Track how many clicks it gets over the course of the month. The clicks is mainly how to base prices. A lot of people charge 1-10 cents per click. So if you banner gets 10,000 clicks a month and you decide to charge 5 cents per click it would be 500$ a month.
