Do you know how much internet speed is required for these games for multiplayer?

I am talking about the bigger games like COD, crysis, starcraft and some ps3/x box games like halo, killzone and all..
I just want to know what is the minimum internet speed required to play these games with atleast 6-8 players online. Mainly for crysis and modern warfare 2.
Plz take care of kilo bits or kilo bytes to avoid confusion...

IMO, 4Mbps to 6 Mbps connection is enough I have played counter strike online on my 3.1 Mbps connection without any problem.

I've got At&t u-verse and never really have any problems playing on PSN or Xbox live (I've got both systems). I will say though that the last few days playing MWF2 on the PS3 has had it's laggy moments in the game. I've restarted our router and it seems to have fixed it somewhat, but there are still those times. I'm not sure if it's my connection or the PSN but hopefully within the next week or so the solid connection will regain.

It's also not only about raw speed, you need to have a good quality connection. Just do a ping test here.

    You kidding me?

I play COD/MW on PS3 every day on a 1.5mbps connection over 100 year old copper wire. :p
Most games are local (AU/NZ/JP/SE Asia), but even if I end up in a US/UK game, the connection is usually "good enough" to have a decent game.

Me too but I play on a 50mbps connection and still lag at times, it's not always about raw speed, it's sometimes about line quality. Mine is a fibre optic cable connection though from Virgin Media.

On a slightly unrelated note, I've decided to sell my PS3 and get the new Xbox because overall, the Playstation network servers are slow and crappy and I'd rather pay like £40/year for a connection that I can have decent voice conversations and gaming sessions on. I mean seriously I always end up lagging just before I get a nuke.

You make me sick :p :p
What games are you playing? I'm really (pleasantly) surprised at how well my PS3 works online, considering I'm on the slowest ADSL connection available (which also happens to be the FASTEST connection available out here in the sticks). Maybe it's because we have a smaller PS3 user base in AU. But even still, games with NZ or JP hosts are still VERY playable.

Meh I only play a few games online which are Burnout Paradise and Modern Warfare 2. Sometimes if I'm really bored I play Fight Night Round 4 which is pretty awesome.

Oh and another reason why I'm getting an Xbox is Halo Reach omg!

Either way, how do you guys bare with such crappy Internet speeds? I sometimes get irritated when I'm downloading movies and the speed goes down to
1/2mbps when it should be around 5mbps. When Virgin Media roll our their 100mb connection i'm gonna be the first to sign up :D

I would say 1.5mbps would be the minimum to make sure everything runs smooth. Something like 5mbps would be ideal though I think.

2 mbps should be ok for online gaming, as long as your apparatus has got enough cache on the processor and good graphics card otherwise it would start lagging. If it does start lagging than RESTART windows(best for solving some unexpected windows problems).

Many Australians are still recovering from the awful memories of dial up. Some people are still forced to live with it.
1.5mbps is the maximum speed I can get. I've learnt to live with it. Don't even get me started on download quotas.
Australia is a joke when it comes to internet connectivity.

Oh wow download quotas? Maybe I shouldn't be saying this but... I recently recieved a letter from my ISP saying in the past year I've downloaded over 700GB worth of illegal content and they threatened to cut my line if I didn't stop.

My response? Get in line. I bet nearly every other person using your service is doing it to.

I'm lucky though, no bandwidth limit with no small print saying 'fair usage limits apply'. I think it's fair to say that I get my moneys worth haha :p

Yep. I pay (monthly) AUD $49 for 1.5mbps with 50GB quota. And I'm on a GOOD DEAL.
Most people are on higher speeds (closer to the city), and are on similar, or even smaller quotas.
If you're not in an inner suburb of a major city in AU, then you're fucked when it comes to speed.

I pay (well my parents pay) £33/month (about AUD $58) for 50 MB, fibre optic cable connection, no download limits.

I'm sure Australia will you know... catch up... :O
