    Hi,

My site had got around 90,000 pageviews from this ip: 85.187.168.253 last month and it has already got around 120,000 this month. So far this month it has used up just over 1 gb of my bandwidth.

Do you know anything about it as I don't want to block the IP just incase it is from a search engine robot. If it is not then I have a very big feeling that it is a site that is scraping through and grabbing every article from my site. I have around 30,000 articles.

The amount of pageviews I get from this IP seems rather similar to the amount of UnKnown Browser pageviews and Unknown OS pageviews I am receiving.

If these are grabbing my content then I have to stop it as they are costing me money.

The only thing is, I need to know if it is a search engine robot or not as I don't want to ban it and then find that my site has disappeared from Google or another search engine.

    Please help!

    Thanks!

How do you now that it resolves there. I have tried entering the ip in my browser navigation bar and pressing enter and it just returns a page not found.

So is this the actually site or is it just the site that hosts the site that is doing this to my site.

I have banned the url now. I had managed to find out what sites where hosted on that server that has that ip address.

They were all dead sites and things. You couldn't even load them plus they had nothing to do with a search engine.

I have now banned that ip and a few others after checking my stats.

I really could not say. Most likely the host for is my best guess. I hate to profile but based on the location they were stealing something. You did good to ban them.

You ought to bookmark dnsstuff.com for future use. They have a lot of neat tools.
