can anybody recommend any decent decent Free FTP application ? where you dont have to purchase a licence to use it ever? (i know SmartFTP and CuteFTP but need a free one). You know any? (which you have used)
If you are using Mozilla Firefox, you can get Fire FTP for free. I use it, and it works just fine. http://fireftp.mozdev.org/
Ive installed Filezilla, but somthings wrong- When i click the filezilla icon, somthing else comes up- (asking you to enter server address + password) - see attached screen shot I dont know how to get to the server/hardrive interface - which is where i want to go, to transfer files.... see attached screen shot, and please instruct me how to get to the server/hardrive interface thanks
That is because you're installing the server version. Download the client version here: http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client
FileZilla by far is the best program to use - for free that is. I have tried quite a few other ones and they don't completely stack up. Plus interesting fact one of the top 5 US banks uses filezilla for connecting its vendors to transfer files so it has to be pretty good.
Filezilla is hands-down the best WINDOWS ftp GUI for any price - but windows can do FTP transfers on the command-line without installing anything. For mac, the best FTP software I've found is actually Cyberduck. And I'm pretty picky with my FTP software. For linux, I stand by gFTP, and it's layout is my favorite - two lists side-by-side. one of your local drive and the other is the remote drive. I wish all FTP programs were like that.
If you are familiar with Dreamweaver, there is a inbuilt FTP program which you can use at design time.
I used filezilla and got a shed load of nasty implants on my website. Avoid Avoid Avoid! Smart FTP is deninately worth the $40 charge any day of the week. Available at http://www.smartftp.com
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1160482 Sorry, i did not used them, but they seem to be good. But most of them are not really free. http://www.macorchard.com/filetransfer/ Anyway, here you go: http://filezilla-project.org/ http://www.smartftp.com/ http://www.coreftp.com/ http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/007/10/free_ftp_client.htm http://www.internet-soft.com/ftpcomm.htm ... and more: Hope some will help you.
i simply refuse to believe that anyone who has used both smartftp and filezilla prefers filezilla. I am forced to ask sir, have you been drinking?
I was using SmartFTP but now I am using FileZilla. I cant remember why I changed, but Im happy with FileZilla.
