Hello, I was wondering if anyone hosts their own site. I have found several how-to's on google, and wanted to know:

    what are the pros/cons
is it hard to modify the website
    ect.

hosting your own website is not a good idea. you're computer must have
a very good specs and a reliable internet connection. And your PC should be on 24/7

    Hi,

I guess you have your reasons to want to host your own site - but it hardly seems worth the effort or risk when professional paid hosting is so cheap these days. Just make sure you have very good virus protection software to protect your computer/server from attack.

    Good luck.

Hosting your site on your own computer/server is what i think you mean right?
I wouldn't do it, even if you do have a reliable connection and a 24/7 computer, its much safer/easier to go with the big guns of the industry, Dreamhost, hostgator, lunarpages(not sure they're still around...) just to name a few, they have computers at datacenters with extremely low response times and huge bandwidths + you get support and can easily manage everything without any need of knowledge of how these servers work and leave you to worry about your website rather than what its running on.

    Pros its safe and secure.

Cons its can be unaccessible anytime due to power issue and latency issue from your ISP site.

Depends if your computer can handle it.
