I was just wondering how many of you out there have up an "about us" page and would be interested in here your opinions. Also, I recently was searching for the best about us pages. http://snitchim.com/best-about-us-page-i-could-find/ What's your thoughts and could you suggest any others best about pages you have seen?
I think that most websites contain an 'About Us' page because it helps site visitors understand who the company is, the services they offer, the amount of time they have been trading for, and so on. I always believe that 'About Us' pages are very useful even if they aren't used as often as we'd expect. Pages such as this and Testimonials can be the difference between a site visitors buying a product from the site or inquiring about your services so they are definitely worth having. In terms of the best 'About Us' page I've ever seen then there are none that I think have been particularly that much better than any others but just explaining who the company is, date formed, services offered, work they have carried out previously, etc is always a great starting point.
I think personally it would depend on your niche. If you are a business then definitely an about us page would be beneficial. I think also that when I'm on a webpage it's one of the first things I look for if that webpage is offering a service followed by testimonials. If you're a games site for example, I don't really envision the need for an about us page.
Hi Sacredhoops I usually think of an "About" page, a "Contact" page and and "Disclaimer" page being an essential element on most of my sites. The reasons are that, first, I often check the About page on a site if I want to suss out the person behind it quickly, and I suspect many others do that too. Secondly, Google likes an About page, so why disappoint them? Personally, I target social marketing for my traffic these days: but if Google wants to send me some too, I won't complain - I just don't rely on it. So it take only 5 minutes to chuck one up - why not? Finally, if you are creating an authority site, the About page can be really useful. You know loads of people are going to check out that page (especially on an authority site) so why not use it to list your best - or your highest earning - posts on? Get that traffic to where you want it! A great example of this is the About page on Michael Hyatt's blog: http://michaelhyatt.com/about I thought I might use that as a model for myself at some point.... Cheers Malc
Google likes "About Pages" there's no doubt about that. It is one of the must have pages! Along with Terms, Contact, Privacy and Disclaimer. But it really doesn't need to be extensive just a paragraph or two stating who you are and what your aims or intentions are. However, you should try and make it unique. Trying to make all of these things unique is going to help avoid any small duplicate content issues. Your about page really is the ideal place for your "elevator pitch" - by that I mean everything your reader needs to expect in 90 secs. Grab them here and on they go....
