I have a hard time finding and setting the keywords for products I want to habe advertised on my sites... If I choose a keyword with a wide product range, for example "Nokia cell phones", I get way to much stuff that I don't really want advertised like accessories for cell phones and so on. However, when I target a very specific product I often have the problem that Chitika sometimes displays a totally different product than the one I specified... like for example a digital camera instead of a cell phone or even worse. To make things even worse I've also noticed that the products of keywords change from time to time, like today "keyword 1" gives product 1 and some time later it suddenly gives back a totally different product. Have you noticed this as well? And how do you choose your keywords for Chitika?
I just use the search function on the Chitika homepage and try different queries until I get the products I want. Sometimes the results do change from day to day but I think what is happening is different advertisers have bid higher for that term. A couple people (myself included) have noticed there are sometimes differences between results depending on what case you type the query in. Also it is sometimes helpful to go over to shopping.com and find specific products there, then use queries that exactly match how they have named the product. Hope this helps.
i would echo what tflight said and add a run to amazon.com to look for exact titles of products to use as keywords (in addition to shopping.com). despite this, i'm seeing terms that were laser beam targeted single term ads now showing stuff that has nothing to do with the keywords. my guess, and it is only a guess, is that advertisers are dropping some terms or dumping Chitika (since so many publishers have, why wouldn't the advertisers jump ship too) and thus these terms are now meaningless and need manual revision. oddly enough, i've found that sometimes when you shorten a long and specific keyword combo to something shorter you get the product you wanted all along. it should work the other way (long version w/specific model or gender or color or material).
Just go to shopping.com and search for what you are looking for. Then use the product's title as your keyword.
Yep, I've noticed that too. It gets very irritating when keyowrds suddenly start showing different products. Sometimes though the product you were initially targetting reappears.
Even if I specify a totally unique keyword I still have the same problem. For example for the keyword "T-Mobile SDA II Cell Phone" I sometimes get things like a casette for children and a playstation and that's the same for many other keywords...
It is possible that there is no inventory available on that product. There might not have been any to start with, or it is over-clicked (budget for the period used up), or perhaps the advertiser has dropped Chitika. Give a try to other products or niches. Don't forget the alternate url feature they have too.
