Do You Have Exit Popup Code or Recommendation?

    Hi,

Does anyone have an exit popup recommendation?
I looked around and can't seem to figure out if any
    of them *actually work*.

Looking to have one that only pops up if the user
navigates away from my site or closes the browser (not
if they go to another page on my site). Also,
must actually work with today's browsers.

Free or paid, doesn't matter. Thanks.

    :)

I agree with fsmedia. Furthermore, popups cannot be reliably implemented because a large number of people use tools which block popups. Also, when people are exiting your website they do not want to have to exit an unexpected second window on your site or its advertising. Most will never return.

It depends what the popup is for - a "popups suck and should never be used, period" attitude is very silly.

For instance, I can't see any negatives to the popup I get reminding me to always logout from my internet banking account if I leave the site without.

I agree, never was a strong stance, but "exit popups" is a yes to NEVER use them. there is NO REASON EVER to use exit popups. But also do note, I never said never, I just said don't use them. Unless you have a VERY good reason to, avoid them.

What about the reason I posted? If I leave my internet banking site without logging off, I get an exit popup that logs me off and reminds me about the importance of logging off. I'd say that's a pretty damn good reason for an exit popup...

That would be an ok case to use, but that's not an exit popup by any means. An exit popup is when you LEAVE the site and then popup occurs. They have a weird system if they do it after leaving the site already. Most bank sites I know of do it on-page and within your session.

I don't care either way if I'm logged in or out at my bank, no one else uses this computer.

I can't see any other way of doing it:
    1) log on and do your banking
    2) close window or leave site without signing off
    3) as you've just left the site, the exit popup comes up, loads the page that logs you off and displays a message to remind you to next time log off properly before leaving
