Upgrade and most of your problems will be solved. The newer versions are much more effective in handling spam.

You could also consider using php Lynx, which is another script with a very good spam protection ;)

I think an0n offers a spam mod, contact him via pm for details of cost and installation.

change your script name, ie: not submit.php or anything else common. Change it regularly. Don't use the standard field names. Change them regularly.

Don't punish your users with Captcha or other such nonense.

Filter crap postings on the frontend before they even get submitted. But never tell the submitter it was filtered.

Agreed. I was surprised how inexpensive it was considering it saves me TONES of times. I used to get spammed to H3LL. Not anymore. Also with this I don't require registration just straight to submit which has obvious benefits I'd check it out.

I'm glad it solves your spam submissions.
It's simple idea but very effective and works for all those directories that asked me to install. Additionally I use pagerank limitter.
No spam, no automats and nearly null poor submissions :)

If I think I know what your talking about when you say this, then I can totally understand why you choose to use it. This may be the most reliable way as well.

can you explain a little more on what you mean by this?

In most directories you submit, then pay...
You can make it so the submitter makes a payment, then is redirected to the submission page. If you are accepting paypal then all you have to do is set it up in paypal to redirect to that page on your site.

Just put the most basic captcha. It worked for me even with the most basic one, with only four digits.

Spam guard is a very nice mod, lets u basically change anything u want from its admin panel, what u consider spam etc... also is someone submits something that has viagra and the word is marked for spam, the listing wont go into the db, it just wont be submitted at all.

I see,,,my new payment mod allows this process to be automated.

It works with PayPal IPN so that you only receive the submission information AFTER PayPal notifies your site that the customer paid.

So if you were a paid directory, you don't have to worry about reviewing any links that may or may not be paid yet.

And of course, if the user submits a sites and then pays with a eCheck, then once the eCheck clears and PayPal notifies your site, then that'll process will be automated as well.
