I never owned a .mobi domain/site before and always figures that mobile device makers would just give in and make them to browse any website the same as a desktop, I guess a bit like the iphone... but have I been wrong in dismissiing the .mobi extension? I never use cell phones for the internet myself and always thought reports of the numbers of people that do to be exaggerated. I know some people simply make a mobi.subdomain version of their site, but I wondered if there are many popular purpose built .mobi domain sites out there?
I haven't used any .mobi domain, because all of the sites has their website in suitable format for cellphones under a subdomain, may be they are just good for reselling
For 15 bucks, it isn't a bad idea to grab the .mobi because you can always develop it later. Consider it an extension of your current brand/company/product. I think mobile funs are more personal than even computers. We can talk, take pictures, take video and share it with a literal click of a button with people anywhere we are and we don't even have to wait for an internet connection being established. It's fast. Think also about this - millions of people have access to mobile phones because they are cheaper and more well more mobile than a computer, even a laptop because they are smaller.
I made a little .mobi dream dictionary site today, just 'cause I never made one before, so I'll see how many visitors it gets in a few months or so. I tried putting one of the adsense for mobile ads on but it dosn't show up so I must have done something wrong. I'm not that fussed really, it's just something the tinker around with.
well some how there are a lot of 3 char LLL mobi domains available, which gives us a significant evidence that they are not profitable...
I wouldn't call it 'evidence' exactly, but perhaps it's a pointer towards other people thinking the same as I did, that it's a waste of time, which doesn't mean it is a waste of time.
And some premium generic .mobi domains are available I purchased my first mobi but not for developing just for mid-term investment
Mobi has yet to proove itself and time is running out. Many domainers who bought in during the promotional hype a year ago are letting domains drop. There's still opportunity for a cool site to do well but it will take some work to promote and monetize it.
may be you are right, I used to buy domains for reselling but nowadays I try to develop them, may be .mobi can be good opportunity, or may be waste of time, well time will show
More money in an iphone site and they have a .com button not .mobi I may give that a go myself, iphone apps also made a few people rich already.
