I recently read about a shop owner having a blog for his ecommerce site that is SEO optimized to funnel visitors to his actual store. Does anyone have a blog in this nature? Does it work well, as in gather visitors? Naturally you don't want your blog to compete for the keywords on your shop's site site, but what if you want to attempt to bring in a more broad range of visitors through your blog without watering down your main site with SEO nonsense? Any thoughts on this?
That's a very good question and I will be awaiting other people's responses. We run a couple of eCommerce websites at work but we have decided not to create our own blogs... I think it's due to us not having the staff to be able to do it on a regular basis as we are always busy. We do backlink from other blogs but most of them are no-follow links so aren't really worthwhile (although I believe they show some organic backlinking). I think it would be definitely worthwhile to do in the future when we aren't so tied down with other things. In terms of using separate keywords within your own blogs, I think that's probably the best idea. If your blogs are linking your original keywords to your eCommerce site but push secondary keywords within the header tags and the actual content of the post then I think that would be the best idea?... Although I would like for someone to confirm this if possible. Anyway, interesting question and I'm looking forward to some more replies!
Well, I am definitely going for it! Right now I have a blogspot blog, which is nice, but I want more control and want to be own the domain. However, running two sites is unappealing. So, it's up in the air.
Blog is good at driving traffic to your website. If you post there useful information people will stick to it and to your store
I dont see why having a blog on your ecommerce website will "water down" your store's seo. If anything, it should boost your site's overall reputation and thereby its seo and serp rank. I develop and own a couple of magento and wordpress ecommerce stores and I have added blog extensions to these sites. Matter of fact, I use aheadworks free blog extension with my magento sites. I see aheadworks registered on this forum. Welcome guys! So back to the blog question. I think your main store will benefit tremendously from a blog addition. What you need to do is make sure there is a link to your main store on the blog, supposing your ecommerce platform does not allow for smooth integration with wordpress or any other blogging engine. Write interesting and informative articles about the products you sell and then in the body or in the resource box of the article include a link to the product on your main store. Blogging on your ecommerce store is the same as doing article marketing. The only difference really is that you are doing the article marketing on your own domain. If done well, this can prove to be very effective. Make sure to enable commenting on your blog entries and you have a community built right in your ecommerce store. Watch out amazon.com
Yes Luxoria, you need to make a BLOG for your e-commerce website. I have myself made blogs for my e-commerce website. I worked so much on the blog that it ranked on top 10 on google and my main website was ranking on top 20s. Hehe.. I know I made a blunder but still BLOG was very beneficial for me. I update it on daily basis.
Blog/News will add more fresh content to your e-Commerce site which is good for SEO. It also bring original traffic through search engines if your content is what people are searching for. However blogging requires time and writing skill. So if you don't have time, back links building may be in higher priority than blogging.
thanks everyone, I am on the same page as bfpseller, right now my goal is backlinks, during which I am gathering blog post ideas so when I do launch the blog I can post at least twice a month.
Why donot you have wordpress blog with some user friendly plugins.. Alien Web can do it for you easily with theme according to your existing website.
blogging on many blogs will be the best, the more links you have pointing to your money page the better.
A blog in ecommerce website helps portal to grow socially by connecting people through latest events, news and offers. It also serves as a decent network among portal and visitors
Well, the main purpose of a blog is to present updated information with fresh content related to your niche which may not be possible on a business website hence an additional blog would be helpful which can be linked to your main website hence you can expect targetted traffic and more revenue.
As a major pitfall of ecommerce sites is duplicate content (product descriptions etc are hard to get unique, especially in bulk), a good blog/news section which delivers unique content has seo benefits
