Although once I got ripped off a site and Paypal did fuck all to get my money back I must admit that overall I don't dislike Paypal that much. I use Paypal for my online business and till now for receiving payments it hasn't failed me.
If you consider Paypal expensive then there is really no where else to go since they are amongst the lowest priced payment processor out there. It is just the cost of doing business and it is an expensive business that Paypal is in and most of the charges goes to the bank anyways and paying for expenses. Just factor the Paypal cost as part of your business expenses and in the cost of the things you sell. Welcome to the real world.
Thats what I am saying, its nobody else there. Don`t you think 30% is expensive ? When selling 1000 items for $1 I am left with something like $650. Welcome to the online world.
Well, no one said you should sell anything for $1. There are just fees to pay per transaction and it is not like they charge you flat out 30%, it is you who choose to price your item so low. The charges is 1.9% - 2.9% + $0.30 . That's lower than the standard merchant charges. If you are doing below $1 transactions, you should look for micropayment processors. If you are worried about the $0.30 then just charge your customers $1.30 instead of $1. I am sure it would not make a dent in their pocket.
Micropayment is not available worldwide. If I sell music, 1 tune cannot cost more than $1. Basic business rule: 0.99 sells much, much better than 1.40. You can defend Paypal all you want, its not going to get cheaper that way. Rather than defending the prices you should try to knock them down for the best for all of us.
Like I said, it is not the fault of Paypal that it is charging such low fees because the other parties such as the credit card banks and other associated parties would tag on the cost. If you want, you should rally against the credit card companies and the banks. You cannot knock them down further if the bulk of the cost are beyond there control. It is not going to cost any less to process a transaction which is under $1 as opposed to one which is above $1000. Other merchants like Plimus and SWReg which offers Micropayments are charging between 69cents to 79cents per transaction. There are a few others which used to do offer that but they seems to have all vanished. You could look at Kagi http://www.kagi.com/kagisolutions/index.php?page=pricing_dg , their rates seems somewhat lower at 2.5% + $0.15 which should work out to be $0.175 fees as opposed to your $0.30 at Paypal.
Well I got screwed by PayPal a couple of times and now I can't add my credit card and I can't get a quality answer from PayPal staff so yea I don't really like it.
am still waiting, it is over 15 days now!! they don't even have a secure delevery, i don't hate paypal, perhaps in july when they open a branch in india, we will get better service from them. but then, why don't you all use money bookers, i recently have used it a bit, and it looks fine! perhaps we should try that, we don't want paypal to get monopoly right
I had paypal on one of my sites and once it got to a 100 dollar pay out I got an email saying the account has been suspended. It was perfect timing cents away from payout. Tricky paypal. They said I had pornographic material on my site and would not renew my account.. It's a baseball site.. lol
