I migrated to GMAIlL but I got so much spam mail, so I went back to HOTMAIL, still get spam mail, but much less,

Do others have a similar experience?

That's the funniest thing I have heard all week.

If you're getting spam in Gmail, its because you signed up for spam. One or two clicks telling Google "what spam means to you" is all it should take to get rid of it permanently.

Google has one of the best, if not the best spam filters.

I found that usually some important email ends up in spam, however it rarely gets to my inbox. I have to check around my spam folder daily though!

I usually dont give my gmail to anyone nor use it to put around sites, you can most likely tell which ones are the spammers from sites that tell you to sign up for a newsletter then you get the newsletter as well as a bunch of spam.

That's correct, for a week or so. Lets not forget Hotmail is known for completely filtering perfectly legit messages too...

Exactly. Don't sign up for things using your professional/communication email. Make a secondary email, and use that one for signing up to things you don't trust. Then you won't have to worry about spam.

I do what ShaneC suggested which really keeps the spam almost non-existent in my gmail. like 1 or 2 a week (sometimes two weeks)

Also you will also get spam if you have pasted your e-mail to the public, it will be endless =/

I don't recall ever using my gmail account to sign up for anything, especially Chinese sites yet it I get hundred spam emails in what appears to be Chinese. I gave up trying to wade through all the daily crap trying to find legit emails filtered to my junk folder.

My Gmail barely gets any SPAM... my hotmail on the other hand has more SPAM than a 1940's supermarket.

When my gmail account was new, I can say it receive very less spam mail. After a while when I start making payments using my gmail linked to my paypal account, the junk mail starts to build up.
