Yes if you are an investor then Warren Buffet is more inspiring... but if you are in IT field then Bill G is one...

Oh yeah, I'm really inspired by his ruthlessness, cutthroat business tactics in trying to squealch every other software developer in the world. He can't give enough money away to buy his way into heaven after all he's done. He all but killed the free market for browser development, until some 15 year old kid dared to develop Firefox and stop him in his tracks. Now Blake Ross, he's inspiring.

Whether you like him or not, he's still made more money in his life than you. ;)

Aside from Bill Gates, only Adolf Hitler is equally inspiring.

When it comes to microsoft product, I have nothing to say much but when it comes to Bill Gates as a individual, I respect for his kindness to setup the foundation and giving back to the society. Ask ourselves a question, how many billionaires out there would ever want to forfeit hisher wealth for the benefit of other people and strangers.

While I am not a big fan of his products, I admire the man for what he has done.

Sure, he played hardball with his coders and the manufacturers of PC's (IBM, Amstrad etc), but hey, proper capitalism has no real scruples. He did what others would have only dreamed of at the time.

Of course, there's the bundling of IE with Windows, but at the time he believed this to be a legitimate business act, much to the chagrin of Netscape. The US courts acted on this, but IE is still a part of Windows (I have been a FF user for years, BTW :) )

If one doesnt like the business practices of MS, then one should just raise a peoples army and seize control of the state. It's the only way that ruthless competitiveness within a capitalist environment can be reigned in ;)

To build MS up from nothing and as a kid, to be taking on the big extablished players and beating them at their own game - these things surely must be an inspiration to those seeking to build their own business.

He was lucky though to have come from a privileged family - I guess he would have easier access than most to the initial capital that he needed to get the ball rolling.

Many though are still bitter about the way MS operated in its early days. The CEO of Lotus is one of them ;)

To me personally he isnt much of an inpiration. I am just a wage slave trying to get a bunch of side-projects off the ground. I'm my own inspiration, I guess :)

Steve Jobs of Apple is far more inspiring than Bill G will ever be.

Heck, Bill came from an influential family and had all the 'backing' of the right people in the right places. IBM for one, for whom he created his first OS.

Steve Jobs had none of that and was a better innovator / human being to the core. Microsoft is still making crappy products and starts twitching if anyone questions their birthright to OS domination.
