5 years in this business and i am getting fed up. Its not the poor results, infact, iv been quite successful recently... its just im tired of sitting on my ass for hours, staring at the screen... I might just go and grab a flight to Cyprus tomorrow and chill round my mate's for a week while im on holidays from uni... possibly get a regular job afterwards too... hmmmm...
Can you make the same from a regular job as you do from being a webmaster? Also, you do realize that most/many "regular" jobs now require people to sit in front of the computer for hours on end anyways ... might as well take whatever will net you the biggest returns.
Il probably just get my old job down Royal Mail finding people who dont put enough stamps on their parcels Im sure the websites will carry on generating me some money too.
You definately need to do other stuff to feel "normal" at least that's what I have found. Otherwise you will burnout by 30.
If you can make the same from being a webmaster as you can in a regular job, I don't see why you wanna give that up. The best thing about being a webmaster, is the freedom. If I want to take a week in Bali, I can do that. I just need my laptop. If I want to go to the Alps, skiing with my girlfriend.. I can do that do, no problem. I don't even have to take "time off" from my business. And if there is this great consert in the evening, no problem, I'll just work in the morning. If I have dentist apointment in the morning, no problem - I'll just work when I get done! :] If course, this depens on what sites you are running. I see alot of webmasters brag about how many hours they work each week. I can only say that I think they are doing something wrong. Hire a coder (if you can't program yourself), and make tools that take care of many of your time stealing tasks. And also, one more thing. If you run a website, there is never a limit to how much you can success with it. And one thing is for sure - if your flipping burgers at burger king, there is a limit. PS: If you spending to much time in front of the computer, get a social hobby! Take trip to your local pub, join a soccer team, take up fish.. there is plenty of things to do (that includes fresh air)
I have a regular job and I'm sitting on my ass behind a computer right now. And I wish I was at home sitting behind my computer there instead, because at least when I work at home I know the results are all mine. But seriously, I think it's about balancing your webmaster work with a social hobby or interest.
My social life is great, poker, fishing, windsurfing, football, tennis, swimming, pool, racing, music, pubbing and clubbing a few times a week... you name it... I guess its just the daily, repetitive SEO/email routine that im getting tired of... I think you guys are right, il just take a break from my comp and go on a holiday... Im suprised you guys dont get tired yourself. I guess i just get bored with things easily. Not just work...
1 week away and you'll probably be itching to come back. Being self-employed is addictive, and VERY hard to give up.
I'm not yet tired of it since I'm very new at having sites that weren't simple Blogger Blogs but also I haven't been inspired much to write anything for my Blog for a few months since I'm trying to learn about php, cPanel and all the other stuff involved...
Webmastering is my hobby. I have like 15 minutes per day to do it. I think that's why my sites all look so web 1.0, but I'll never get tired of it.
being a webmaster is an addictive job, it is just the morning, and the entire day will pass just sitting in front of the screen! the last whole year passed the same way. i don't even realize it is morning or night, am all day here. i took a break last month, stayed out for 17 days, without the computer, and the internet. but then when i came back, the first 18 hours, i did not even moved away from the computer screen. the breaks that we take from being a webmaster, makes us more desprate and the addiction just increase! cheers!
