Do you ever get authority sites submissions?

I was wondering, do you ever get authority sites submitted to your directories.
I have received a few submissions that I thought that someone might be joking with me, but their emails were valid. I am talking about sites that probably most of us have visited with high PRs and high rankings and great brand recognition.

You will be waiting for quite some time to get authority sites submitted to your directory. I add them myself manually in order to populate my directories with some high-quality listings.

I just denied Google, DMOZ, Yahoo, ASK, AltaVista, DogPile, and quite a few others yet AGAIN, about 10 minutes ago. Damn Spammers!

Yes, I add them manually as well but I have gotten a couple submitted and I was really surprised.

Yeah I know what you mean, they must be using an automated software or something.

PS: Whoever submitted Google to my directory is not funny  :D

A SEO of a big company will probably choose the free submission (if he has that option) most of the times. Why? because he has to report weekly or biweekly and justify the expenses, and a directory submission is difficult to explain in terms of ROI especially to people that don't understand much about internet marketing.

Yes, occasionally. What surprises me is when I get a submission for the site of a well-known company, and the SEO obviously hasn't got a clue about directory submission. I mean, how many of you guys actually welcome descriptions full of promotional language?

But getting these submissions shouldn't be a surprise: authority sites don't get to be that way without having some ongoing SEO strategy.
