Hi guys, this is a continuation of an old thread. I thought I would update the details and post fresh . Do you enter DP logo contests? When you do not win does your logo go to waste? Do you want more logo design work without the contest? If you any yes to any of these questions then you may be interested in my collaboration. The Idea: Offer logos you have submitted to contest but have not won for free download to interested users. In the process building up your online portfolio of logo designs. Hopefully the site will generate a lot of traffic and bring in new work for people who need a custom logo ($25 to designer who does it). The customer will choose the designer based on thier portfolios. At this stage I am looking at max 5 designers (1 spot already taken). Your job: Continue trying to win contest on DP. If logo is unsuccessful change the logo name to a generic name (company name) so we dont infringe on any copyright and send me the master (editable) file. My Job: I will upload the files and your portfolio. I will also actively promote the site ($500 budget for promotion already). I will write all content and update and manage the site. The site is 90% complete and can be seen here at http://logodlabs.com. Please PM if you are interested. Please read this post carefully as it contains the neccessary infomation. Thanks
The idea sounds good, but in my opinion there is one big flaw: Designing a decent logo starts with the name of a company and is built around it so that it isn´t interchangeable (like the FedEx logo can´t be simply swapped with FedTrans). I believe this is where design begins and copy+paste ends. I´m not saying this simply to say something negative, but because I´m convinced you´d get custommade, unique logos under similar conditions. If you´ve chosen 5 designers to work with, let them come up with their own ideas and you get much better results, and only show the rejected logos as a showcase.
yes true, every logo is unique n different. Besides not winning doesnt waste ur logo .. - its gives u more new ideas - shows how tuff competition is .. n brings out ur best
Hey no problems that is decent feedback which I can understand. However the free logos are not neccessarily for top of the range companies. If you ever see some of the monstrosities (is that how you spell it) some small businesses use a free logo may be just what they need. I would be interested to hear from more logo designers what they do with logos they do not win with. Society is far too wasteful in my opinion and its always a good idea to recycle . Thanks for the feedback.
I just use logos from contests, or concepts my clients rejected, for portfolio bulking. Maybe you would be able to use the concept/idea again in another logo though so it's worthwhile hanging onto them rather than selling them for very small amounts. Your idea is a good one and the free logos would definitely be popular. Would you be editing the PSD / AI files for each to accomodate the user's business name or would you supply just the PSD files? Supplying the files might cause people to re-sell / re-use them elsewhere - maybe even in DP contests!
I would be supplying them the files to edit themselves. Of course their is always that risk that people will use them for the wrong reasons but the other options involve too much work or are not very practical. I strongly believe not catering for the 5% who will do wrong and by giving the editable files 95% of the users will really appreciate it.
Yeah it would definitely be a nice service and people would certainly appreciate it. If it stops people wasting their logo work then it can only be a nice idea.
