im eternally cursed to be thin, so vitamins don't work for me. can i name names? centrum i wish i can get some meat on me and be able to fill out my clothes well
There was a recent report that taking vitamin supplements increased the chances of dying prematurely particularly A and E. Although it may be a correlation rather than causation
Eh not really multivitamins but I do take Vitamins b12 supplements followed by a routine exercise and strict dairy diet.
wow, nice topic. I had always wondered about supplements and wanted to see if I should start them as well. Could anyone post more information about when one should take supplements, why and how to choose right ones. (like how do you decide to take specific supplement if you feel tired or sleepy in afternoon)
I take multi-vitamin, omega3 & 6, Cod Liver Oil, Zinc, B-Complex, Vitamin C, Fish Oil, Protein and a glass of fruit juice daily.
I try to get my vitamins from a balanced diet, but I do take glucosamine to help my aching joints into old age.
There are reasons for being ectomorphic, simply taking a multi-vitamin is not going to get you 'buff.' Besides changing your diet (this will take the most work), I'd suggest throwing a little protein powder in the mix and some digestive enzymes. People who eat a lot of food and can account for it religiously but don't obtain good nutrients from their food lack in digestive ability. I know a doctor who posted a long thread about this on one of the fitness boards I frequent, I can help you a little if you are serious. I don't usually take a multi, a few supplements I do like regularly: Ginkgo biloba (brain) Creatine ethyl ester (I am a non-responder to regular monohydrate) Fish oil caps (general health) Fiber (too much psyllium husk type fiber can drain minerals though) Taurine and arginine (go into my CEE mix) Protein powder (typically whey isolate/concentrate in the morning and pre/post workout) digestive enzymes - with large meals especially any with red meat I suppose those are the basics for me, although I have quite a variety of things I take when I feel like it. Right now I'm experimenting with Arginine-Alpha-Ketoglutarate, what some of you will know as being similar to "NO2" products. Some of the smaller supps I have taken here and there can be seen in my cupboard pic http://www.theironpalace.com/supps.jpg
I'm only 31 and I try to remember to take mine as well, from weight lifting over the years coupled with MMA its a necessity.
Very good info, things like vitamin A instead of beta carotene can become toxic especially if highly dosed.
