When I tell a lot of people what I do, I get, "..oh a computer nerd.." Just jokingly. Obviously I work with computers, and on the internet a lot but have never considered my self a nerd. (Not that its a bad thing to be one ) But the stereotypical 'computer nerd' does just what I do, and most everyone else on DP. What are your thoughts?
Well, some people who know nothing about computers think I'm a nerd, but I'm not technical enough to think of myself as one. I mean, I'm not into gadgets, don't know how to install Linux, don't know Java and only a bit of javascript etc. I'm an online publisher, is what I say these days. This does include HTML and CSS, online marketing and SEO - but no, I'm not a nerd.
Let's see. I'm currently posting to my blog, updating three of my websites, scheduling IT courses for next semester, and browsing DP all while I'm at work. I work in a Computer Repair shop. By definition, I'm a nerd. But I definitely don't meet the visual stereotype. At least, that's what my mom tells me.
The image of a so-called nerd has come a long way since that of the pale-skinned, glasses wearing skinny basement living nerd we saw in movies in the 80s and 90s. It's much more fashionable nowadays
I suppose I'm fine with being called one. But I agree it doesn't even begin to reflect the multitude of skills I possess. If knowing a lot about computers and the interweb-thingy makes me one then yeah I'm a nerd! EDIT: Actually, I like Geek much better. I'm a geek for sure.
T0SP30 you should then change your "Feel Good PLC" to "Proud to be a Geek" j/k On-Topic: I'm no geek nor nerd, i just like this forum so i stick around watching the views
Well, I was called a nerd when I was in elementary school/high school, so I guess that counts for something. I also read lots of books and play video games.
My friends don't think of me as a nerd. I'm one of the most popular kids at my school and have an active social life
