Do you cloak the affiliate links of CJ?

You know, the sort of ugly affiliate link of CJ? Do you cloak it in someway to make it look more pretty and more trustworthy? Such as doing a php header redirection?

I'm new to CJ and never had the chance to experiment so I just put the plain original affiliate link for my visitors. Don't know if that'd hurt my sales. Anyone had any comparison by experience?

I was wondering the same thing. On a couple of my sites I use CJ links, and at the moment I just use the regular CJ link code. But it does look ugly and they writeup for the links says you need to include all the text to get the commision (including the img tag)

How do others do this? Really would like to cloak my CJ links!

Yeah, I know the terms and conditions on CJ say that they can (and will?) ban you if you use cloaking methods, ie iframes, or the such like. What Im looking to do is have something like this

    www.mysiteblog.net/goto/myrecommendedproduct.html

and when someone visits that url it automattically redirects them to my affiliate link. Not really cloaking as per CJ's terms but making it easier for my site users to navigate.

As an aside, ive done a bit more research now (should have done before posting I guess!) and found one article that states the IMG tag is just for click through and impression tracking. If you dont want/need that aspect then just using the URL provided and cloaking that should be perfect.

Yeah, that's what I was planning to do. This is against their TOS? But on what reasoning? It seems weird.

You don't really need to cloak your CJ links as most of your target buyers here are not
internet savvy that can steal your commission.

Well, instead of buying from your aff. link they would just buy it from their
own link. So where does the commission go? ofcourse to the last cookied link.

This is very common specially when you are trying to promote products that
has something to do with software, programming internet marketing. 75% of
your target market here knows the trade really well. :)

Unlike if you are promoting products that has something to do with perfume,
clothing, kitchen ware, scrapbooking kit etc. 60 to 80% of your target customers
here don't have any clue whether they are buying from affiliate links or not.

I don't see how CJ could ban you if you simply create a "prettier" link (ala ht*p://mywebsite.com/recommends/product.html). I don't see where the conflict is for them.

If you meta-redirect which blanks the referrer, you will get banned, or leads/sales reversed.

This is true, I've experienced to have my commission reversed few months ago but it was not CJ who punished me but the product owner itself.

So guys, be careful of altering your links, every advertisers has its own rules/requirements, make sure you read their affiliate agreements first before promoting specialy in the investing niche, they are very strict.
