I noticed today that while I was searching online for some 'serious' information, I was coming across websites with adsense ads in them. Some ads seemed very relevant and probably contained good information. Instead of clicking the ad, I found myself saying "that is a nice placement of adsense" and taking a screenshot and moving on. I cannot remember the last time I clicked an adsense ad and I believe I have been doing this for about 6 months (I have a lot of screenshots). Anyways, just thought it would be an interesting discussion to hear if any webmasters or SEO's clicked adsense ads anymore...
I recently installed Thunderbird and find myself now subscribing to all interesting RSS feeds under the sun. Result: I don't actually go to these sites anymore because I just download the posts. This got me thinking earlier today because I don't see any ads hence will never click them. If this RSS stuff keeps growing then this could really affect Publishers I think. As far as I'm aware you can't ditribute AdSense over RSS yet so realizing this, there are BIG disadvantages to providing such feeds. When actually browsing I do click ads when they entice me to do so...
I think from an ad standpoint, they could hurt, but if you're pulling in visitors from other places because of it, you're probably outweighing the problem- atleast for now.
Once in a while I'll see an ad that grabs my attention and curiosity gets the better of me, and knowing the amount of budget some people throw into AdWords, I'm keen to simply extract the URL from the AdSense link and check it out without costing them anything for me just being nosey
I dunno its easy to get paranoid cause google has these super powers. I dont click any adsense ads regardless of the website.
If something makes me curious, I usually just copy the url rather than clicking on the ad. I'm used to doing that on my own site with AdSense, so I seem to have started doing it everywhere.
I do click on others ads but never on ads shown on my site... However, the ad must be of interest to me...
Same. I made a concious effort not to click on Adsense ads (anywhere) as this ensures that I won't click on mine by mistake. I do however find a lot of interesting sites through Adsense. I think it's a pretty good resource. I am into photography and I love some of the sites that appear on my photography site. But, I just type in the URL to go to the sites.
well i click the adsense sometimes when searching for infromation i see a ad that looks like its right for me but most of the time if im at a site and im very pleased with there service i will click there ads to support them
I make a point of looking at all advertising and if I see something of legitimate interest to me I click through which accomplishes what the advertiser and publisher wanted in the first place. I am tempted to click on ads on great sites to reward them but I can't say that I've ever clicked with no interest in the site I was going to.
Sometimes it is almost like I notice ads when the site is so good that I want to thank the author/owner somehow... Hence, I don't want to use adwords content either ;-)
Yeah, for me it's almost a programmed way of thinking...DON'T EVER CLICK YOUR OWN AS BANNERS has caused me to not click any, anywhere.
Hey! I was wondering about the same thing. I was thinking if I made a site for SEO types and put adsense on it... would anyone click or have they told themselves never to click on ads? Now that I am an adsense publisher I rarely click on ads. Sometimes I extract the url and go directly to the site. Ross
its the only drawback about webmasters and webmaster forums, you get a lot of webmaster traffic, who would begrudge someone earning, even if they were actually interested in the ad. The fact that they would never have seen the ad if the page wasn't there, doesn't interest them. Directories are the worst, might just aswell have blank space there. i have clicked an ad at digital point, once.
I don't click them anymore because i know that clicking the Ads by Goooogle i'll get the link of the ad that interested me, and type it at my browser directly!
I do happen to think that it's OK to click ads. You're not always wearing your webmaster hat, you know.
I'll click ads occasionally. Either when I see a site I really like, or if something catches my eye. Occasionally (like, rarely) you'll even find a useful ad. Hard to believe, I know.
