Im curious if you have a Charities category in a paid directory and if you charge a charity to be listed in your directory?
No, but with what a recent submitter did, I was not fond at all of how they went about it. Im sure others got the listing as well. What was done is instead of using the contact form, they just submitted and in the meta description wrote a small message of: 'Please take this link. This is non profit organization' That's so damn tacky, and I didn't like it. I asked my buddy to check on it and he confirmed that they were in fact a non-profit org too. All they had to do was just use the contact, so now instead, deleted.
speda1, a good point, at least regarding the larger charities. an0n, i totally understand what you mean, if they went with the correct type of approach it would of been fine, i see how that can put some owners off doing them a favour.
if the charity site is genuine and they contact by the contact us form, in most cases they will quality for a free listing on my directories! or atleast they can get discount
I'll always list them if they approach in proper manner --not like what Rob experienced. I have clearly instructed those sites to contact me through the contact form in my Review Policies.
Freewebspace, absolutely, a good approach. uttoransen, i imagine many directory owners would have a similar thought on listing them too. I know that some charities could have some pretty big budgets so i dont think its harsh if someone wants to charge, within reason, and i know there are tons of fakes out there so it would be naive to take them all in. As an0n pointed out, i think a bad approach would maybe put a directory owner off listing them, if they appear to be begging or wanting to bypass the usual rules.
jhnrang when trying to click on your links it wouldn't let me I had to right click and open in new window
Yes, we offer proper charitable organizations a free listing. I won't accept sites from webmasters claiming to be non-commercial; there is a difference between a registered charity and a non-commercial site.
Is there any way to confirm whether they are Genuine Charity sites ? ( and not some hired SEO person )
Yeah, we get inquiries requesting a free listing for a "non-commercial" site which usually turns out to be a MFA site. We usually thank them for their interest and refer them to our guidelines. Invariably, we'll get a reply suggesting that we have no editorial integrity and our offer is misleading as their site is purely non-commercial as it does not offer anything for sale and provides valuable information (hidden amongst the maximum allowable AdSense units and other affiliate ads).
I know that there are registered charity numbers, but i realise you mean further checks than this probably, to absolutely know that their real, im wondering about this too.
The cheek of them, i have often found that the most rejection worthy sites can often be the most likely to challenge you about it and tell you that you dont operate properly.
Hi Thanks for your interest. I just tried to cliked the link --and it opened. don't know why you can't open.
I don't know maybe its just this stupid vista and ie7 but I can't submit anyways as the site I was going to submit is a subdomain as I was going to submit my deep link directory in my sig
