As far as my opinion on the biblical flood, I believe mesopotamia was flooded, giving the illusion of a worldwide flood to many in the region. Egypt has on record a devastating flood about in Noah's time.

Are you speaking about the flood during the time of Noah's Ark?

    Yes. Noah's flood.

As for Mesopotamia - there are flood stories in China, Mexico, Pacific Islands - World wide - most have striking similarities.

Yes. There is atleast some evidence of a global flood (atleast part of the globe) which was presented on the Discovery Channel.

let me guess - They all involved lots of water.

There is no posible way that there was a global flood. Zero. Zilch. None.

Consider the impact on the vegetation, the animals. The volume of water required to cover the entire earth.

But wait, lets clarify some things. Are you talking about a flood like mentioned in the bible? Because that is simply impossible. If you are talking about a flood which covers most landmass, then yeah, sure, thats possible...just no indication that it has happened any time in geological recency.

What about if all the ice caps melted?

I realized some current mountains - everest, etc would still be there, but most of the other land would be gone would it not?

As I said, sure much land mass could be covered, but I have no idea how much exactly. But point remains, there are many mountains all over ther world, and we're talking about altitudes of 1000m plus as a very small mountain here. Just think of all of the places you ahve been which have altitude of even 500m or more.

Then consider the VOLUME of space that 500m Deep over the entire surface of the Circumference OF THE EARTH.

    Maths:
Earths Average Radius: 6,372.797 km (from wiki)

    4/3*Pi*radius^

    (4/3 * 3.14159 * 6,373.297^2) - (4/3 * 3.14159 * 6,372.797^2) = 255,195,292.40 Cubic Km of Water EXTRA

255 million cubic km of space which need to be filled to cover UP TO 500m. And to cover up to 1000? It more than doubles the amount: 510,430,629.3 cubic km.

Wikipedia's entry on water says that the total earths water supply is only 1.36 billion cubic km, and 1.32billion is already in the oceans. So if we melted the icecaps (25 million cubic km) and stripped all of the moisture from the air, we could get 38 million cubic meters worth, which is a long shot off 500 million...and impossible in itself to strip the moisture from the air.

OK looking at that problem again from another angle, the ONLY way to cover most of the earth in water, would be to erode the earth down into the oceans. You need to literally take the dirt off the top of the mountains and put it in the ocean. You therefore raises the seas AND lower the target.

but there is no evidence that such a thing has happened.

I think most of us will see one, both poles have enough ice to cause flood a huge portion of the land

And if the mountains didn't exist before the flood (lets say nothing over 500m) - would there not be enough water to cover all the land?

    For arguments sake?

For the sake of science, perhaps it was a series of large floods occuring around the same time.. Most of the Bible is metaphorical anyhow.

A lot of event in bible are scientific, I believe there is because maybe last time it was very cold and somehow ice mountain or any other things melt and causes this. It will happen once again to our earth, kust like in the movie the day after tomorrow.

Nothing in the bible is scientific. Things are regularly attempted to be interpreted as scientific, but that is a lame attempt to make the book look to be something it isn't. I could make the Lord of the Rings or Star Wars look scientific if I tried hard enough.

And yes, if the earth was perfectly smooth and there were no mountains, yes there could easily be a global flood. Surprise surprise. Unfortunately there is no indication that the earth was ever so uniform. If anything, this is the most uniform it has ever been. But fact is, if there was a 'Global' flood anytime in the last 50,000 years, then there would not be the diversity of life on earth that we see, nor the geographically unique distribution of it.

The Biblical flood story is myth and myth only. (or most likely, a local event which was rather large. But local nonetheless.)

I guess I am saying what has only been said previously in song format:
    It Ain't necessarily so.
    It Ain't necessarily so.
    Things you're liable
    To read in a bible
    Ain't necessarily so.

Well opinions can be stated without evidence or argument. You can have the opinion that everything in the bible is true, but I will back up my position with argument and evidence.
