i believe in my own abilities more than I believe in god. We must take responsibilities for our own actions rather than relying on an imaginary figure from outer space.
Who said we use God to blame him for our actions? Also, why do you say imaginary? Just because God is not visible to you does not mean he does not exist.
It is true. No G-d exists outside of His noodly goodness. All hail to the one and only, the great and holy FSM!
If ur not sure whether you ought to believe in a deity like god, allah, buddah, jah..... I'd say you should take the advise of my good 'ol french pal Blaise Pascal. Blaise Pascal lived in the 17th century, but parts of his work remain to be part of today's science.... So my 'ol pal is no numbnut or whatever ;-). To wrap it up back in the day people held the belief that once you were death you were either go to hell or to heaven. There were 1000 ways to get in the hell but only one lead into heaven - believing in god. Blaise then said if there is no god but I believed in god there is no harm done but if there is a god and I wasn't a believer I might go to hell. To put it in a nutshell he proposed that there is no harm done in believe in deity. This became known to be Pascal's wager.
There are 2 main logical errors with pascals facile little wager. 1. people can't make themselves believe something. The most they can do is lie and claim they believe it when they actually don't. If a god does exist it would know you were lying. 2. If you are hedging your bets you better hope you picked the right god, otherwise you are in just as much trouble, if not more, as the honest atheist. Religions don't say you have to believe in A god. They say you have to believe in their particular one. So which one will you go with? Thor? Vishnu? The great juju up the mountain? Baal? pick one.
I don't really agree with or believe any one religion. But I do think there is likely some sort of higher power, whether it be a being or simply a uniting force.... I have my doubts about there being any kind of afterlife. I also think if any religions had it correct at any point in time it has probably since been misinterpreted
Well of you are certainly right in assuming that if there is a dollar in front of me and you want to make me believe that is actually 100 dollars. That won't fly of course. Except through torture or simply because I'm fed up - in those cases I just say whatever you want me to say. But as you are born in Rom, Italy or Viena, Austria you are most likely to be Roman Catholic in your confession just because your parents were and it's the predomenant religion. The same goes for Hinduism in South Asia. And guess what most of them belief in the religion they were given when they were born til they die. As for "self-inflicting" a religious belief, well we do deceive ourself all the time (ever seen Britain's Got Talent, American Idol. *lol). However the point is that such a belive might not be a 100% genuine beliefe. And yeah your right the wager gets way more complicated will all the religions around but in Pascal's thinking it would be better to pick any god at all than to risk hell by not taking any chance ;-).
I didn't want to start a new thread about this, but I was reading something that I thought Christians on this forum might get a kick out of. This person on Twitter has decided to Tweet the entire bible, "one tweet per chapter, one chapter per day." I swear that I don't know him/her at all, just thought it was kind of an interesting story. After reading about it, went to his Twitter page (Bible Summary) and looks like he's up to Gen7. LOL.
Not to worry the causes of mans expulsion, it is only a fine line without the evil is all it takes to be whole again. Nothing wrong with a little competition.
