Do you believe in God? If so, why?

I'd be interested in hearing people's opinions on this matter.

As of yet, I am undecided and willing to swing either way, though I'm tending toward: "no, I don't believe in god."

It seems unlikely that god exists, yet at the same time it seems unlikely that he doesn't exist, given the awesomeness of the universe.

    Your thoughts?

God exists to me. It is awesome, this universe that we live in. I needed to know that there was someone in control because i was taught as a child that he existed but i never really knew him. I wondered (as you do) where he was though and why this awesome world that is our home is deteriorating so fast and what was he going to do about all the problems that the world is facing. So i got to know him through the scriptures and with practical knowledge it all made sense of everything ....so i have put my hope and faith in him. I believe in the resurrection to earth. I guess though to be saved you would have to recognize that you need saving in the first place. I hope you can get to know him too.:)

I don't believe in God in the conventional sense, but I do believe in some greater power. Don't know what it is, or what to call it, but something like Mother Nature I suppose.

If he started the big bang, what started him? Why is God above causation?

I don't believe in god per se but there might well be something out there. The bottom line is we'll never know.

There is nothing wrong with believing in a god, and conversly there's nothing wrong with not believing in god, it's all a question of belief.

yes, and not because the Bible tells me too...I believe in God because I know that everything I look at was created for a reason, along with myself.

Here goes another mile long thread.
I suppose whether god exists or not is up to the individual.

But you didn't finish.. and it's a prime example of what faith is.

Faith is simply the plug for a hole in a logical string of cause and effect. When you reach a point in the string where there is no logical answer you are either forced to admit you're wrong/don't know the answer, or "take it on faith".

    You know God exists because..
You know that everything you look at was created for a reason. You "know" that because...
Well... you don't really "know" that so... [insert faith]

Thank you for this fine specimen of an example :)
