Im not being rude, but how do you know thats what happend in biblical times?

I imagine you will tell me because the Bible states this but daily newspapers state things that often are complete lies or at best an exagerated form of the truth.

No, we believe the bible to be true. And the bible does state this. I know in my heart God is real, i have felt his presence and he has answered my prayers.

to glorify his name, to tell him we love him

sb1234, so you know that im not challenging your beliefs just on a forum and for the sake of it, il tell you something, i have actually challenged my own mother a few times over religion, she attends church once a week on a saturday evening or sunday morning.

Im happy to leave her in peace, appreciating that its her choice, but the moment she mentions something where i feel she is trying to influence living in any particular way i point some things out to her.

I show her, her own contradictions and im often bewildered at the fact that she will believe in something with no proof and take part in mass etc etc but she will point blank dismiss a view that i may have of the world because its too far out for her, because its not written down for her and she hasn't heard or thought in a particular way before she immediately will act as if a person is nuts for believing in something that doesn't fit in with her way of thinking.

I thought i will use her as an example, she appears to shut her mind to what i point out to her that doesn't quite weigh up.

I see a pattern of where religious people are eager to tell others how it all is but rarely open to an alternative outlook on life, death, positive, negative etc

Are you just posting random quotes from a site which you assume supports your lie?

Look at the first quote. He clearly says "I cannot look at each separate thing as the result of Design".

And in the second quote you left out the convenient portion of text before that line which was "I cannot admit that man's rudimentary mammæ; bladder drained as if he went on all four legs; & pug-nose were designed. If I was to say that I believed this, I should believe it in same incredible manner as the orthodox believe the Trinity in Unity".

If you are going to lie and misrepresent what people say at least have the common decency to not inflict such insults on the dead.

Actually there is a lot more to it then that, as a matter of fact scientist dont even agree on one particular definition. Thats how they get it accepted. When some one questions the theory, they change the specifics of the definition

he only made it clear that he has no idea what a scientific theory is.

"In science a theory is a mathematical or logical explanation, or a testable model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition. For example, it is a fact that an apple dropped on earth has been observed to fall towards the center of the planet, and the theories commonly used to describe and explain this behaviour are Newton's theory of universal gravitation"

If any of you ever want to listen to a sadly deceased but eternally unique man telling you some of his views in the most soothing voice then check out the mp3's freely available of Terence McKenna

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terence_McKenna

He had a way with words like ive never come across before or since, his experiences are delightful to listen to.:)

Do you or do you not see doubt in his theory within that quote? I never said he didnt doubt a designer. Look below, that is my point, he casted doubt with his own theory. Chance is involved in evolution, or would you like to change the definition again?

Maybe you should have some common sense and basic logic.
    Let me explain;

There's this thing called Pascals Wager:

Pascal's Wager (or Pascal's Gambit) is the application by the French philosopher Blaise Pascal of decision theory to the belief in God.
In his Wager, Pascal attempts to provide an analytical process for a person to evaluate options in regarding belief in God. This is often misinterpreted as simply believing in God or not. As Pascal sets it out, the options are two: live as if God exists, or live as if God does not exist. There is no third possibility.
Therefore, we are faced with the following possibilities:

    * You live as though God exists.
o If God exists, you go to heaven: your gain is infinite.
o If God does not exist, you gain nothing & lose nothing.

    * You live as though God does not exist.
o If God exists, you go to hell: your loss is infinite.
o If God does not exist, you gain nothing & lose nothing.

Now, why is this wager total bullshit ? Because:

    My Wager:
Two options. Live as if <insert any wild creation you can come up with here> exists, or live as <same> does not exist.
Let's say my creation for this matter is named Xenu, the evil alien from Scientology.

    * You live as though Xenu exists.
o If Xenu exists, you <insert anything that can occur beneficial>.
o If Xenu does not exist, you gain nothing & lose nothing.

    * You live as though Xenu does not exist.
o If Xenu exists, you <insert anything that can occur as a big loss>.
o If Xenu does not exist, you gain nothing & lose nothing.

Replace Xenu with anything, and there you have it. Stupidity.

BTW, great job on staying on topic guys
