In 2002 I used to buy traffic, I did not see a big difference. I forgot how much it cost but, it had to be only a few dollar (4$ or 5$) or I would have passed. I did it about 3 times. I did not notice much of a difference but, the stats showed the hits coming from all over, everywhere.

But... I grew up. I haven't bought any since then.

    Free traffic is sweeter.

I've bought traffic in the past and I would only use it again as a form of cheap branding. It's not really effective if you buy traffic in hopes of getting sales, unless its pay per click like Adwords.

I've been marketing for a few years and have found that purchasing traffic is mostly a waste of time...There are so many great ways to get that same traffic for free. Explore these avenues before plopping down the bucks.

Update: BuyAwebsiteTraffic.com ripped me off - took the money and never delivered.
(First my campaign was listed as 'pending' and then just disappeared).
I am trying to get my money back via PayPal now.

Traffic bought wont do any good - look for traffic from organic search as its well targeted and will convert better.

I've never trusted targeted traffic, unless its from adwords.

Adwords provides the BEST targeted traffic. It may cost, but if you get the right keywords you can make a lot of money.

Only if I know where the traffic is coming from and that it's targeted traffic. Otherwise no

I have been selling traffic since 2001

I have found that the people that are successful at it have a plan and understand how to make it work, and those that it doesnt work for are the type that have a hard time making anything work.

    1) you have to buy enough. if you buy 1000-10,000 do not expect much. Thats the same as running ONE tv commercial or putting a billboard up for 1 day....you have to reach enough people, and with traffic, usually the same people are not seeing your ad repeatedly. Most people need to see an ad 4-7 times before responding...as a result its a BIG NUMBER GAME....a "test" should be at least 100,000 visitors.

    2) Never send to home page....you need a true landing page, with one focus. Otherwise people have too many options, won't choose any and will leave.

    3) CONVERSION..most people do not understand how to create conversions...sending people blindly to an affiliate sales page won't get manys sales.

    4) comparing to different type of ad...I have an article on active vs passive advertising. People compare PPC response rates (but those people are LOOKING) to other types of ads (where people are not looking for anything at the moment). They do this incorrectly and therefore have unrealistic expectations.

Many people that buy traffic get let down, because they do not understand how to make it work.

If you're going to spend the money, you might as well buy leads. GetResponse gives you this option. You can buy so many and then, you build a small ad to appear on the default confirmation page and in mail sent by people with free accounts. Only those who are interested sign up.

I purchased 200 leads for $89 a few years back. Don't know what their prices are now, but I was pleased with the results. It wasn't instant - the leads only came through when people signed up.

Or you could just buy solo ads in other people's newsletters in your niche.

I don't agree with this statement because the main purpose of increase traffic to your sites, brands or products is leads, projects, conversion. But to buying traffic to your site is don't do for you. There is some method under SEO and SMO by using these methods we increase our visitors and if we submit our brand videos to SMO sites like YouTube, Dailymotion and also many more.

For more info. see this video-

Buying traffic these days is a little troublesome, as so many are bot traffics, which the seller can always claim, they sent you real people, and they didn't like your product

Buying traffic from trusted sites is of course great! Testing is so much easier with paid traffic and if you get the hang of it, it isn't so hard to make money with it.

Agreed. Paid traffic is great for testing the waters. I have no problem with paid traffic. I make plenty from it....It's all about testing, testing, testing in order to see what works!

I have never had success with big bulk traffic sites. The only traffic I would buy is ads that you can see and hard spots you control.
