Do you backup your Database Data or do you rely on your provider?

    Hey,

After another backup I made myself for ALL my database data (in fact I made a full backup (files, DB's, etc.) as the provider will move me to a faster server, but I like to be safe), I was wondering if you guys make backups of your databases data.

I know most providers are reliable, use mirrored sata or raid 5 disks, bla, bla, but do you do your homework?

Imagine you have a payed directory and you loose all!

It's plain simple, specially if you use phpmyadmin... a backup takes 2 minutes to make and can save you a lot of trouble. ;)

Yep, I back up my databases at least once a week.
Should do it more often, like daily.

Like you said, the SQL dump process is so quick and easy in phpmyadmin - everyone should do it often just for the peace of mind that they will not lose any of the work they have put into their directories if anything catastrophic happens.

We back up daily since it takes so little effort to do so.

This is a no-brainer, if you have a paid directory and don’t backup you deserve all that luck my bring you.

I backup everything weekly. If something bad ever happened and I lost a full week, I keep good records and receipts of all those that purchased listings. Would probably take me an hour or two to get the backup running and add those new (in the last week) listings.

For those of you running free directories, daily backup would be best. After all, you won't have any records of submissions/listings lost since the last backup.

I learned a hard lesson from this one in the past. One that got real ugly, so now I do it daily. Backup entire db and server files.

I have also learnt my lessons. Lost lots of data and members on my forum.

So I do my backups myself. Rather then relying on someone else to do it.

    Cool!

I see people around are getting worried about their data. I make backups myself often. Maybe not daily, but more than once a week.

Maybe I am just a mistrusting person but I never rely on a third party to take care of what is my data. It is always a sound idea to have a good backup strategy. Of course you have to find an equilibrium between safeguarding your data and not spending to much time on the actual process of backuping it.

I do it at least once a week both database and server files. Saves you trouble and just costs you 10 minutes.

Id like to add that relying on anyone for anything has always the path open for you to get screwed over... rely only on yourself.
