Do ya'll get the affiliate first or develop the site first

Just curious if building a site and once traffic is up then getting the afiliate link is the way to go? Or can you get approved for the affilate link before the site is developed. If so then what do you do for links before you've been approved as an affiliate, just a link to the Companies website without getting paid?

Develop a site around the niche and wait till you approved before saying anything about the product/service/whatever your promoting...

    Good luck ^_^

I first select a product to promote from an affiliate network and then create a review site around it. I try to make it look like an independant review site.

Some companies will not approve you if you don’t have a website. If you are trying to join a company like Office Max you have to have a site up so they can check it out, but if you are trying to join a company like CJ you can put up a fake name and then change it later when your site is setup. I think it best to have your site setup first and the ad affiliate links later.

Thanks for the help, I'm developing my own site:) It's a forum and my plan is to integrate affiliate links into the discussion.

I've only tried to get one affiliate link so far and was declined by the manufacturer. I learned that you need good content and traffic before some of these guys will approve you for an affiliate link, which is the hard part. So I'm beefing up my content to re-apply.

One of my obstacles is getting as much traffic to one thread as compared to a site that is geared towards the same product. I don't anything about programming or affiliate marketing- I'm literaly relying on this forum and others as my how-to.
