I was diversifying into other affiliate programs well before I new about Google and most probably before it was launch. How I see it is that Adsense is just another program to me. They are reliable, but still are not something that I would depend on for my full income.
Motivation can be a real bitch once you have reached a certain comfort level. Alternatively, motivation can also be a real bitch after Google has penalized you four times for no apparent reason. Either way, motivation can be a real bitch. The secret, of course, is to enjoy what you do. My personal issue is that I can never seem to enjoy the same thing for very long. As soon as I attain competence, I lose interest. Hmmm... I dunno.
I agree with you on motivation. The more motivated I become the more success I get as I do more work and also do it better. The more money I earn also motivates me alot as it encourages me to do more. I also enjoy what I do. How I see it is I prefer what I am doing online to what I would be doing if I had to work for somebody else. I can work my own hours, don't have to do what the boss tells me to do, The more I work the more money I will make, etc.
Agreed. I busted my butt for a year and a half, working my day job + developing sites on the side 4-5 hours a night. Now I work from home full time. It's great, but getting motivated can be hard sometimes
I had a mate who worked in the (soft) porn industry touching up photo's. Just like most jobs he said he got bored... Zooming into nipples all day must get as frustrating as many other things I guess!
I'm not so sure it's about getting complacent. Sometimes its about to much diversification. I know I've been guilty of that. A new idea pops up to capitalize on a trend, and I'm all over that..forgetting I needed to make a 4th site about another well paying topic.
I wouldn't make a porn site anyway. It's not something that I would want to do and my girlfriend wouldn't be to happy that I am messing around with naked womens images on a daily basis. I would have to do it on the quite or something. lol
For me it took same time to do $0 => $10,000 and $10,000 => $17,000 on adsense.. so may be the law of diminishing returns might be true little bit.. The thing that stops me from launching new sites to increase this number is management issues only. Currently I am at around $20K/month but I am not growing very fast because management of sites are a problem. Managing 150 sites based on 30 different shared hosting, some dedicated servers and all that email management gets very difficult.
jimkarter, now that's funny. Can I have some of those problems? I don't need $10k. I'll take $1k/mnth and be happy. At least for now! Anyone want to show me how?
Exactly. Classic Supply and Demand. Meaning the marginal profit from 100/month to 200/month is less marginal cost than going from 10,000/Month to 20,000/Month.
Simply the motivation can leap one from sub-300 to $1000. I cann't understand it. The only chance is developing more sites with same content (As IGN doing) or different content.
I'm very much the same in this regard - I think it's my desire to prove to myself and other that I can, and once I have the motivation is lost. I thought this might be the case for most bigger earners. That said, at 20K a month it might be time to get someone to start doing the routine work for you. I know if I ever get that big (and I plan to) wherever possible I'd be attempting to get someone to do the routine work so that I could focus on the more important aspects like developing new ideas and concepts.
