    Do using words like news, resource center, information etc. hurt your site's ranking with Google, Yahoo, and/or MSN? Are there any general words that hurt or help rankings? I think I've heard this but I'd like data or published policies.

    Why would they? I have several news sites with the word news in it.
    News is a KW. Resources and information would not be an important KW.
    Mistakes in title are common;

    1) like when SEO's use the word "online" in their title tag. This is a waste of space (user is not reading a printed paper...lol).
    2) or the use of the word "information" in title tag (what else would the user be here for)
    3) why use the word "resources" in title tag (your site already is a resource to user).

    Your title tag should describe your site in less than 5 words. So those 5 words should be the best KWD's for your title that you can make. Using words like information or online (unless you are a major drugs or casino company who must seperate corperations*) are a waste of valuable real-estate and can rob you of rich KWD"s that will facilitate high organic SERP's

    *Example: CNN TV, CNN Online

    I thought I had heard that words like news and resources might be to commonly used on sites that are nothing but ads and affiliate links. They'd use those terms to present the pages as something more than just a page of ads.
