Read that many top webmaster forums sold for relatively low prices V7N sold for around $200K Domain webmaster forum, Namepros was sold for only $200-$300K few years ago https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NamePros#Acquisition_by_Bodis Considering that Namepros is more than 10 years old and one of top domaining forums, that is pretty cheap price. WebmasterWorld and Cre8asite also sold https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NamePros#Acquisition_by_Bodis Are these forums sold cos they are no longer as lucrative. Do webmaster forums still make good money nowadays?
I think they are lucrative. There are still many users and they get a lot of traffic. They are easy to monetize. Not only with adsense but also banners and affiliate marketing. To break into this niche you need to offer something special. Especially if you want to start a new forum. Many of these forums use the same platform as when they started. If you start a new forum you could take advantage of new and modern forum platforms. This will be one way to compete with them. But you need various strategies to make yourself stand out.
Only the previous owners could tell you the real reasons why they sold the sites. I'd imagine after a decade or so you would grow tired of managing the same site. Burnout happens eventually and most people want a new challenge and need the cash for a new venture.
Well yea forum owners make money first because they have power on so much traffic just think about it
Of course being a webmaster is lucrative. i'm like a house builder, i build good quality trafffic driven websites then sell them on and move along. Quality websitewith quality driven traffic = money website!
I don't think forums are particularly lucrative. However, if you have a site the forum is built around with really good content, then you have something worth money there. Nowadays it seems everything is about content.
If you get a lot of members and traffic, they can make money. It's not easy to make money with a forum. Everyone is using WF as an example, but you would have a long way to go to match the traffic and membership of the WF. While you're building, forums are a lot of work. They must be moderated and promoted constantly to get that membership up.
