Do we need a better email marketing service?

I have been contemplating creating a new email marketing service where members can create their own newsletters, create subscriber lists, send or schedule them, and view statistics on them.

I feel what is currently out, Intellicontact, constantcontact, and benchmark to name the most popular, lack so many needed benefits and features.

Viewing more detailed statistics that help enhance future campaigns, creating lists that update themselves based on subscriber actions, avoid members from sending to unwanted members based, to name a few.

Do you feel there is room in the market to create a new service that had more of what people needed to run a really successful email marketing campaign?

    Appreciate it

I looked into this a while back for a client and found most of the options out there to be fairly costly.

There is probably room in the market but you'll need good marketing and promotion. The market is fairly saturated so you should have a niche or things that the other players don't offer but that people really want. I know I know. It's easier to say than to do. Good luck.

ConstantContact works pretty well, but it is a little costly. They just updated their interface.

I would give it a shot... You are going to need a very good promotional strategy to pull something like this off. What is going to define you from the existing ones? What do you have that they don't?

Maybe you could have a free account where users can send 100 (or whatever) emails a month, and that's the limit. You could have different types of accounts for different size businesses.

You need to create a good plan in order for this to work, and make sure you have put enough money aside for this... :)

What price range did you want it to be?

Have you ever tried Exact Target. It has all the features you mentioned, and it has worked well for us. Many people who use it don't quite understand that you don't have to use their templating system, it allows you to be as creative as you want.

If you are still thinking about doing this on your own...
Now what would be cool is a heat map feature like what Crazy Egg does. http://www.crazyegg.com to show how people are viewing your newsletters.

In my mind, there's always room for the "new guy" in town. That is IF you determine your own unique competitive advantage. You have to figure out what makes you different from your competitors. Give your market the value they seek, but in a different way from your competitors. :)

Oh yea, there's always room for a new guy. Personally, I have yet to find a service that guarantees that it will avoid being labeled as spam by most ISP servers, and at the same time, is free or really cheap.
