Feedback Do we have any rights to our posts here?

So, I requested one of my topics to be deleted via the report function because DP has removed the ability to delete here, and get a infraction in return.

So my question is: Do we actually hold any rights to our post here? Or is everything we post owned exclusively by DigitalPoint? (Hello Facebook 1 year ago.) If that is the case I will stop referring friends here and i'll make my way out too. I don't know any other forum that would *ever* do something like this.

(Chances are this topic will get me banned for speaking out...)

Won't get you banned but when you post something online, anywhere, you do relinquish control. Threads are deleted here if they break the rules but if they generally comply then they're left standing.

Anyone who wants a thread deleted - before anyone has replied - will generally get a positive response. Once you have responses then you need to get a court order.

So why do people generally want their threads deleted
    • they've advertised a site/domain for sale and given the url and the new owner won't pay unless the thread is deleted. The buyer should have found out the terms of the forum prior to participating and if the terms weren't ok then you don't bid
    • you've asked for a review and a while later you see that when you google for your site dp ranks higher - get over it, do the SEO and the problem will be solved
    • you've shot your mouth off and in retrospect you find you don't like the way people interpret your posts. Tough, its the net, that's how it works. Even the Google overlords are warning people now.
And even if we did remove the thread it wouldn't remove it from all the sites that scrape digitalpoint. Your thread would live on well beyond the control of this site.

You have author rights, but not publisher rights.

Funny because the thread I wanted deleted had 0 replies. It wasn't adverting or selling domain of any sorts, either.

Yes it was selling a service, however I decided against selling the account due to various reasons, and it was *never* was sold, nor will I want it sold in the future.

Well without looking at the thread itself, I would suspect you got an infraction for trying to sell an account, not for requesting it to be deleted.

Selling hosting accounts isn't allowed here? o.o Than that should be clearly noted on the infraction if so, which it was not. The way I read the infraction was, don't report it again, the topic won't be deleted.

    My point still rests though

Also there are several topics of selling accounts now that I look at it - the moderators have some work to do.

Instead of asking it to be deleted, you should have asked the mods to close the thread and NOT delete it. Threads can also serve as archives or for documentation purposes so deletion is not an easy thing to ask.
