Back link or no back link it is still better to have one than not have one. Although I think I would not count on it as a link building tool, there are other easier ways.
Check this out : I copied from Matt Cutts writing who is a google search engineer, as i still cannot post links
Twitter is simply is a nofollow website. No matter what link you put SE will not follow it. You can get a lot of traffic through it but no BL. More importantly I have never heard anybody got any kinda business from Twitter.
Twitter is funny about it, it gives you an illusion of traffic. I have several followers, when I do posting to twitter I see the number of views increases to 35-40 and more in "seconds". But they all are bots , when I see unique IP stats, I see only 1 unique hit. Twitter is just too messy now days as people are using automated ways to post thousands of post to twitter.
Right, if you could put your direct page links in your tweets but not shorted ones, it would be picked up as backlinks for your sites though they are nofollowed and without anchor keywords.
Twitter can't give you backlinks. But it can give traffic and exposure to your website. And I also think that using social networking like twitter can be helpful in some sites that promotes products or services. And the success of promoting your site in any social networking sites depends on how you used it.
That's quite interesting reading that, as I thought it would back link. At least now I know not to concentrate my efforts of back linking in that direction! As others have mentioned though, I expect it is a great way of getting your URL visible to many people - especially if your tweets are interesting (define interesting in any way you wish ) Rich
I think, Twitter give you backlink "nofollow" ... Tweet without short URL. Why twitter not give you backlinks? Because your status is no index on SE.
all links from twitter are no follow links. the only link you get is in profile link otherwise all links are no follow...
At first, I think that twitter only provides great amount of traffic to your site. But I've read an article online about getting your friends to re-tweet your tweets. If more people re-tweets the story it will be posted to a certain site that tracks and list the most popular re-tweets by users with the original url with links to your site.
Interesting that people find Twitter a good method of driving traffic to their sites. I gave it a try a while back and had no real success with it. I would love to read some proper Twitter traffic building strategies.
Google doesn't really care that much about nofollow or dofollow. Even though twitter are nofollow links some peoples pages are very high PR and a banklink from a high PR twitter account does have a noticeable effect on rankings.
You can try wordpress short url plugin to create shorter url with your own domain name and post to twitter. You will get traffic from twitter but "nofollow' backlink
Yeah, I agree with you... Twitter can really help in gaining traffic to your sites but not backlinks...
