Do URL changes cause a Google ban?

    I need to make some changes to a few of my URL structures. For example,
    mysite.com/electronics/product_10 will be changes as;
    mysite.com/electronic_products/sony_mp3_player or; remove some directories:
    mysite.com/sony_mp3_player

    Will this cause a Google ban? (My site is new and does not have a PR value yet, so I'm not worried much about losing pagerank.)

    google wont ban you. Unless you over do, it might help with your SERPS to a small extend. Make sure that you do a 301 redirects for old pages, if you have any external links poinitng to them.

    You won't be 'banned' for changing url's, although if those pages were previously indexed then it may take some time for those pages to be removed and the new pages to show up. You can correct this with a search engine friendly 301 redirect as alemcherry suggested. If it's a new site and hasn't had much exposure (or links to those pages) then I wouldn't worry about redirecting anything.

    Google shouldn't ban you. The only reason they would ban you is if they thought you were using the redirect to manipulate the search results by using a high PR URL to get traffic to an irrelevant site.

    google will not ban you. The only problem is that you'll have to wait a while and build backlinks again for those pages. They will lose all their reputation in SERPS.

    In the similar circumstances I did face the loss of ranking at google. However in due course of time everything was back to normal.
