do u have to use ur full name and home phone number when registering a domain name? 1-can i use my full first name and my last name initial only? is it illegal to use ur shortened version of ur name? 2-can i use my cellphone number instead of my home phone number? Also,if i register a domain name, and last a company trading in that name wants my domain name, can i just give it to them for free to avoid all the hassle? and do i have to wait 60 days when transfering a domain name from godaddy TO someone else on Godaddy?
Well, according to the ICANN policy, you need to provide real information when registering a domain name. Yes, you can use a cellphone number as contact number. I do that because I am seldom home but always reachable via cellphone. If you do not want anyone to know your details when they do a WhoIs on your domain name then opt for the WhoIs Privacy service, I believe it is called Proxy by Domain or something like that at GoDaddy. As for the giving your domains to whoever ask for it, it would depend on you and the other party and the agreement you reach with them. At the offset, try not to infringe on anyone's trademark to avoid any issue in the future. If you want to transfer your domain name from GoDaddy to someone else at GoDaddy, the 60 days wait does not apply. It only applies when you are transferring it out to another domain name registrar such as Namecheap.
ICANN tries to make sure that all domains be registerd with accurate information, sadly many people use fake names, fake addresses and fake phone number for doing that. If you are concerned about disclosing your phone number, use your cellphone or an online cell phone number such as those provided by efax.com
