    IS there any point my trying to get my link onto 1k directories?

    Will I gain visitor's?

    Or is it just a 'myth' or w.e!?!

    Yes for 1k, no for the traffic your probably hoping for directly from them.

    As i often say you can gain traffic from this, but its search engine traffic brought by increased serps if done well.

    From someone who has submitted my sites to myriad directories, I still believe you are better off getting a link from a highly regarded site within your niche, than a directory link. I think that is does help if the directory is indexed in the search engine, but not as much as some people would like you believe. I have one site with thousands of backlinks and a low PR and another with about 87 backlinks from authority sites within my niche and it has a higher PR. I think a combo approach is your best bet, and don't forget about great SEO.
