Do They Really Want to Know???

    Even though others have continued to warn me against notifying submitters to my directory whether or not their submission was acepted or rejected, I have done so from the very beginning.

    I'm starting to wonder though if those who submit to directories really want to know if they were rejected or if they only want to know if they are accepted?

    So my question here, is plain and simple... Do you really want to know? Or Not? :)

    If I pay I want to know definitely, I recently submitted a $50 featured to biz-dir and received no email confirmation when it was approved. I think it's polite to do this as it saves the submitter having to remember to check.

    For free directories I'm not fussed, submit and hope for the best.

    @syted

    I agree with you. For paid directories there definitely should be a notification.
    It seems that some directory owners are too lazy to setup an email template with notifications.

    @Rod_Purnell

    Why would anyone warn you against that?

    We send a confirmation email when an enter is accepted. If it is rejected we don't want someone who didn't pay attention the first time to waste our time a second time.

    Can I ask, what do their warnings consist of?

    Of course people want to know if their submissions have been accepted or rejected! Why wouldn't they? Most of them spend a lot of time creating sites and to know whether they've been accepted means a lot to them. There have been numerous threads at DP talking about how they wished that one certain directory would notify them about their submissions and that is a FREE submission directory. :D

    The question I want to ask is, why is it so hard to notify either way? Both directory scripts I've used have that process automated. Set it up once and you're done! What's the issue here?

    It doesn't take any time for creating email templates and automatic email notifications.
    Its quite easy - http://www.bloggeries.com/emails.htm

    If I pay, then I would definitely like to get submission, payment, approval/rejected notification.

    I would very much like to know if my site was rejected to a directory, otherwise I have no idea how the promotion of my site is progressing, and therefore my site will consequently suffer.

    The issue is the few bad apples who will react badly to a rejection, and the time it takes to deal with them. That's all really. There's no reason not to notify on acceptance, though.

    Why not just use an email account that you never use as the sender, and thereby completely remove the aspect of having to ever reply?

    Actually, no issue exists. I was only curious as to how many people actually cared after a submission was made. I send rejections and approvals for both paid and free reviews, submitters who are the most demanding as far as the exact reason they were rejected are always those who submit free for review. Go figure.

    Looks to me like most folks here like to get an answer though. Guess I'll keep on business as usual.

    Thanks everyone!

    I didn't mean to imply you had an issue, I like anyone else and I assume you too, want to know if they've been rejected or accepted and how easy it is to set up your directory script to do it for you, that's all. :D

    This is actually a GREAT idea that I am thinking about implementing. Thanks thrawn! :D

    I like to know if my links have been accepted or rejected, I don't like getting emails saying that my link has been submitted and is waiting approval.

    I'm not keen on these either, they clog up the inbox. The only time I want to see an automatic email on submission is when the directory requires an email confirmation to submit, or if the directory submission process actually has script errors and I'm not sure whether my submission made it through. Otherwise, it's perfectly acceptable just to use the standard "thank you for submitting" message online.
