Well though they said no in the webmastercentral, the answer I find is YES. I had this blog first set up on blogspot and 12 hours later set up on my own site which even got a link from my homepage, because I thought I would appreciate the control more than just writing on blogger.com. So I did it and imported all posts(5 posts then) from blogspot into my new wordpress blog. A week later I searched with the name of the blog(both identical) and blogspot appeared ahead of wordpress which then had 10 more posts. Looked up the analytics, blogspot even got 2 search visitors (I have done nothing in promoting it) while wordpress had no search in visitors at all with all the links. Now, that is nearly 2 weeks later, wordpress has completely disappeared from Google with its name as the search phrase. Is it dance? While blogspot is showing right up there with only 5 posts.
Google doesn't intentionally favor blogspot, but blogspot does have built in authority, which like any powerful site gets favorable SERPs. Google also seems to be pretty good at filtering blogs from search results, so they have that going against them - although I haven't paid much attention to how much blog filtering they are doing these days since the blog search thing flopped. Your post is confusing - you talk about blogspot, blogger, and wordpress, but blogger is blogspot and neither is wordpress. 10 posts versus 15 posts isn't much of a history. You may have just ended up with a duplicate content penalty with google favoring blogspot because the blogspot page had better inbound linkage. The same could happen with a typepad blog or any number of other service providers.
This is not a blogspot issue. If you host a blog on your own new domain and at the same time on blogspot.com or wordpress.com, later will come first on search engines (not only on Google). This is due to reputation of blogspot.com or wordpress.com. It takes some time, a new domain to be indexed by SEs. A good posting on craigslist.org is shown in google search result within 48 hrs which is impossible if you put the same content on your own new domain.
i dont think that google is giving a special importance to blogspot. it's like the other blog hosters. i think the example that you mention is related with the power of your site
You have said that you imported the content on blogspot to wordpress. So I think it's because your blogspot was the first blog that has been indexed by search engine and other reason could be the duplication of content.
maybe when you imported your posts, the urls change so you got a lot of 404 errors....plus your blogspot blog had the content first so the wordpress blog is seeing as having content taken from another site
Google doesnt favor anything, unless things are done better than other websites. Im great with wordpress.just sayin..
I also think that there is no intentional bias. Just wait a bit, and let your web site gain authority.
Thanks you all for the clarification. Now this makes sense to me. Hmmm, so blogspot seems really a good *spot* to try out new ideas and see if it works.
So you guys feel on an authority.pr basis blogspot can pass more of that than any other blog site/software?
i think logically blogspot code is made seo efficiently since google development tam knows criteria to do good in SERP
i also find out that blogs on blogspot dont go to sandbox, so they start to recieve traffic instantly
The blog in my link Q-gasm got a PR3 after 1 month of existence with just links from 1 blog. And that blog is a PR4. I don't know if that's normal or if it's a blogspot creation
