Mods, I'm not sure this is in the right place so if it's not please move it. I know nothing about the actual building of a website so I need some guidance from those who do My broker is having a site built (development link: http://www.dev.chattanoogawebsites.com/Happy1/) and what the designers have come up with is not acceptable. When you click on a link there is a double flash of the header before it changes to the linked page and the body doesn't change seamlessly with the header. The curser is supposed to be a happy face. It is in the body but not in the header portion. The developers are telling him that if he wants the rising sun and to have the links change as the curser hovers over them then this is the way it has to be. I said it's not acceptable and they have been told to come up with something else even if it means no rising sun, no smiley face and no changing of the links. This doesn't make sense to me. Seems like it should be possible. Any advise would be appreciated. P.S. Ignore the body. What's there is not what will be going live. Thanks again and rep will be given to all who help!
The links and rising sun animations are done in Macromedia Flash. Microsoft recently released patches for Internet Explorer which requires these types of interactive elements to be clicked on before they can be used. Meaning what would happen is the Sun wouldn't animate and the links would be disabled until the flash "movie" was clicked and activated. To work around this security issue, some web develops are using a script which loads the flash movie using Javascript which is where your "flicker" is coming from. This, to my knowledge is unavoidable. You either have a movie that doesn't function until you click on it, or you get the flicker. Hopefully someone will come and back me up on this. On a side note, the links that change when the cursor mouses over them can be done outside of flash fairly easily.
I can do the java script for you to avoid this for a small fee, pm me if you need your site done by a professional let me know, also if u dont want to pay for the script i can guide you how to do it for free, contact me on msn at kovanic @ hotmail.com
Since it's not my site and I'm only trying to get some info for him at this point, I'll relay your info. I'm not going to spend my money on it
honest opinion here, id say scrap those designers, i dont know how much your broker is paying them but if its not free he's getting screwed. It honestly looks like a site that was built in the mid 90's. If i were him id tell him to go look elsewere because the quality there giving him is just not up to todays standards, especially when its a paid service. Shameless Plug here; You can pm me and i could honestly have that site done within a day or two depending on my schedule. Talk it over with your friend and see what he/she thinks. I gaurentee my quality to be much better than what he is getting right now.
You have good ole microsoft and lawyers to thank for not making this easy for you. Take my advice, get rid of that lame flash header. get rid of those developers and make sure those links at the top are in html, not flash. PM if you are interested in making this thing look nice.
