Do the Dublin Core metadata elements help in localisation?

What is the current situation regarding the metadata elements created by the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative? Do the major search engines support them? Do they give any substantial SEO weight to them or not? Are the DC metadata important in the localisation of a website or are there better methods?

No. If you are trying to use Google's Local Business Center, the City name field defines what "map" the site will show up in. The categories will define the keyword phrases.

Although most SE support them, there is no SEO weight and none of us use them.

Then what's the use of the DC metadata elements for geotagging? Are they totally pointless in localisation? I always thought that the DC metadata elements for geotagging were useful to make it clear to a search engine where the business is located without having to resort to a local top-level domain, a local webhost and Google Local Business Centre. Am I wrong?

I'm from the world of benchmarks and I have not found any site that is using it successfully. What I have always wanted is the LAT/LONG and a radius but non of the SEs can sort their indexes by LAT/LONG.

But this is a great forum to ask this question.

Anyone have this working? Can we see the URL?
