Do submitting to free directories work? Or do Paid work better?

Which one works better in link development for SERP's?

Free directory links on category pages or paid ones?

I would prefer to work on free directories. I think paid links doesn't guarantee a good ranking. But if I submit my site for free, I don't loss anything if I get a good ranking or not because its free.

 

depends on the quality of the directory. Look at the things such as pagerank, age and indexed pages of the directory.

Paid are definately better, fast with surety, but I would prefer free directory and use the cash to buy PPC

 

Often, paid directories are better because they are "linked" better than freebies. But when you start positioning for a new phrase, use freebies - then boost it with paid directories.

 

Paid links are sure.But free links have only change.But unless placing to paid links for $$$ u can try some free directories for $$.

I have to echo what every body else is stating that the paid route is the best. I have a few directory listings and to date, have not really gotten much from them.

Paid are better, cuz they are on high PR directories. But any backlink is valuable for your site/blog. No matter of the page.

 

It depends on PR actually. Pad or doesn't matter. You should look at the PR of the page where your site will be placed. Generally high PR directories are not free.

They are cracking down on link buying. That's why I only buy advertising, not just for links.

I might argue that one. I wouldn't submit to a site that I'd be lumped in with a bunch of "bad neighborhood" sites or MFA sites.

 

I like free ones You can submit to many many free directories, and i guarentee you will get better rank then like submitting to a few paid ones.

 

We are not talking about that kind of sites. I wouldn't submit to a site that has PR 6+ and has more then 200 on this page as well.
