Can the writers be rated by some kind of DP self assessment tests that exist in Elance and other sites?

You have a spacing error in your title, and multiple capitalization errors in your first line. The 2nd sentence ends without punctuation.

Just as one would expect posters to do their best writing in response to a request for a writer, the same applies to someone complaining about poor grammar. As someone that has to edit the mistakes of others frequently I sympathize with your point, but as stated above, your best defense is to use their posts as an indicator of their attention to detail and act accordingly.

If there was a realistic way to do it, all users would be banned from all areas of this site if they can't use proper grammar, punctuation or capitalization. Unfortunately, it's not possible.

You shouldn't be complaining about the English skills of the users but their nationality, that kills me. I have yet to see a single post with so bad formatting/English errors on WF.

Somehow this forum attracts all kind of users from the 3rd world.

So if you are Indian but have lived in the USA since you were 5 you'd still be banned because you are still an Indian National?

Skill counts more than "nationality". Current location might count for something but there will always be exceptions. I like the idea of the elance test but ultimately this is an internet marketing discussion forum and not a trading site.

Pretty much, yes. There should be a section dedicated for them and for those who can't even type. Go on WF and point me just one thread with bad formatted posts.

You better get the writers from warriorforum or freelancer. Here most of the writers are non-native with super crappy english.

Where can we stick annoying posters who complain about everything and tell everyone else how to do things?

They'll never end, the more you reply, the more they will annoy you. Also I was not the one who started this thread.

There are plenty of decent writers here, and plenty of lousy ones there. You get good content by screening the writer up front and being prepared to pay for quality. If you pay based on minimum wage in Bangladesh you aren't going to get a guy trained in the English Dept of Bumfuck County Junior College... much less Harvard.

Aside from that, if you read their posts, converse by PM/email, view published work, and STILL get garbage, the fault rests with the idiot that hired them.

If there are too many "dumb" writers bugging you, I suggest you ask for samples upfront and entertain only those who have surpassed your standards. From there, ask for a paid sample and provide detailed instructions which will help you check the ability of the writer to follow instructions as well.

I think it is quite hard to gauge a person's writing capability and English proficiency based only on his/her current location. I, for instance, am currently located in a third-world country. However, if you visit my profile, you'd see that I was born and bred in the US with credentials that would support my claim that I am a professional writer.

I have worked with Filipinos, Indians, and even Singapore citizens. I have to admit- some of them can write as good as any other US or UK-based writer. There is no way of knowing who is better based solely on where they are from or what their nationality is. Simply tighten up on your application process and you will find yourself working with the writers that you are happy to have in your team.

Very Well said about the nationality. Skill is more important. There are fields where people from India are the major source of knowledge.

    bloggerkaye --- Well said

    and ROBJONES:
If you don't know to design you hire a Designer
Similarly, If you don't know to write you hire a writer...

iam not a WrIteR and so u should nut expect me to be perpect in derms of grameree (i also accept that basic things like punctuations must be correct and i did it wrong in this thread), where as i will expect a writer to be perfect :)

There is a realistic way, sites like oDesk implement it.
If you want to list yourself as a contractor on oDesk, you have to clear mandatory English language skill test. The test is time limited, so you can hardly cheat (unless you have someone with great knowledge sitting with you)..

Bitching about forum post quality is one thing, and complaining about the quality of work provided by contractors is another.
I may have the worst possible English Skill, but if I want to hire a writer, I want a perfect man for the job.

I do believe that quality of service section of DP is comparatively lower than other market places.

Right.. So instead of talking rationally, we should be behaving like a bigot?

I come from one of said 3rd world country, and I have better English skill than many Britons/Americans/Canadians/Aussies

    skill.jpg

My punctuation sucks, so I don't work as writer.. (Besides it doesn't pay as much as coding does)
But don't go generalizing people based on their nationality.

Listen moron, i have worked with more than 10 article writers here with good feedback but the articles are worse then what a 10 year old can write. Go to warrior forum and see the difference. And i guess you are a old man as you have grandchildren. You Question the right of op as to what his credibility is with articles quality is when he still doesnt have one. When you are paying someone it doesnt matter if you are gibberish or even know English. You may be 60 but you havent grown up.

Not sure suggesting you get what you pay for is news, much less worthy of a reply beginning "Listen moron".

    Try decaf.

Actually it does matter since you'll need to proofread the articles for mistakes and quality
