Do sites like facebook do SEO?

I have seen many small and big brands spending money on link building and SEO. Sites like linkedin and twitter have been known to make on page changes that will make their 'profile pages' stand out.

 

No they don't LOL. Like they give a shit about shitty search traffic/

 

Personally, they don't. They spend other media to promote their brand making them instantly famous. Branding itself is enough to trigger huge search engine traffic.

Facebook is so popular so basically they don't need SEO. They become successful through word of mouth. When people likes something, they share it to their friends.

 

I believe facebook do SEO.. otherwise the will lose..

 

Well, if you look at facebooks homepage, under careers, they are hiring for their SEO department. Not quite sure what that would entail except for counting the new members eachday. I don't know iif a person on earth hasn't heard of facebook. My 6 yr old daughter even knows about it.

That being said, it does not mean that Facebook sharing doesn't help with your SEO efforts. The thing with social media is getting people to see your content that otherwise would not have seen it. If more people see your content, then more people can discuss your content and possibly link to your content on sites that do pass link juice. So although Facebook may not have a direct impact on your rankings, there may be a very strong indirect impact on your rankings.

 

Maybe before they did that. But now i don't think they are promoting the sites like facebook and twitter, since they're very popular right now.

so probably they will still be needing it on the long run..

I think for Facebook it's not necessary for them to do
SEO since they are so popular and the traffic will automatic
come to them without any sweat. And also they don't need
to follow the rules of different SEs in order to be on top.
Millions of people are visiting this SN so I guess it's not necessary.

 

Yeah its helpful at some extent from SEO point of view. I think promoting or advertising your product or site on these social sites is good but as described by all that you can get only traffic from these sites.
