Do sitemaps detect new pages without resubmitting?

Hi just wondering if google will detect new pages I have added to my site? Or do I have to make a new sitemap and resubmit once i have added new pages. Thanks.

That all depends on: the application, how often Google scans your site, links to the new pages, etc. Many of the sites I have developed and/or used have dynamic sitemaps which automatically submit when new pages are created and/or updated.

Assuming that the new page is in straight HTML format and that there is a link to it from the web site's home page, and assuming that Google updates the web site every week or so, in your opinion what are the the chances of the new web page being indexed by Google?

Depending upon the crawl rate, google will definitely index your new pages sooner or later but by submitting your updated sitemap, you are inviting google to visit your page and index it faster ;)

Its depends on you. means what type of site map you are using for your site. If that is static then obviously you will have to add your newly added page manually while for the dynamic site map it detects automatically what is being updated there.
