Do signatures help with SERPS?

I was wondering if it was worth placing a signature here. Does it help with SERPs? I see almost everyone has one here.

Yes I've seen links from my DP sig on msn and yahoo, don't know why it doesn't show up on google, but it does count as backlinks.

I think it's not important for SERPS, but, the crowd you see your website link everyday

Well, don't really want people see threads with my signature in it....I was wondering if it was possible that it could improve your search engine ranking for the website that is in your SIG?

No one really knows for sure if they are completely discounted as links, one thing though, they will help your sites get spidered :)

I would bet that 12,000 links from the same site are discounted by the SE's though, I think they can identify them by the forum software's signature as a forum signature link and discount them very well.

I seen my links in my signature in google and have also got tons of hits on them, I think it's very much worth it, that's why people want to buy signature space, tons of people look at them everyday. Pretty much you're getting free advertising, why not use it? :)

Yea, but it seems too easy. I would imagine Google would have banned that practice by now. I thought I've read that it's already worthless. Wouldn't hurt to try, eh?

Really, all they are good for is getting your site crawled by spiders and some traffic and exposure from people that read!

Don't count on "the more you post, the higher you get in the SERP's", because it will not happen!

Post because you have something interesting to add to a thread or something that might be a bit entertaining to read!

If your fellow webmasters like your site, they might link to it, that is the main benefit that can help your SERP's.

They are good for getting indexed and direct traffic, that's about it.

The exact impact of forum links is hotly debated, as you can see above.

IMHO, they make a difference in the SERPs, but not much. And, after a certain number of posts (maybe 20?), additional sigs are not giving any additional improvement.

The natural traffic from a signature link on a quality forum is of much greater interest.

Yes they are helping a little bite in SERP! I known this from when i got banned for 1 month from digitalpoint, and lost all my signature... i lost 5-10 possitions in MSN/Yahoo! after my ban expired, i begun to get up again in serps :)

Forum Signature links are good especially in the case of your site is new and if it still not indexed by major SEs, then by forum signature it will be crawled easily and very fast.

I'm pretty sure that forum sigs help with more than just getting spidered.

I got most of my sites indexed through forum sigs. but that was a while ago, dont know how effective it is now. I used seoelite to find high pr forums and posted a few posts (made sure they were relevant too ;-)). made sure i had my sites in my sig.

Forum links do help boost your serps and definately carry some weight.

Test it yourself, pick a phrase (nothing too competetive) relating to your site.

Check where you currently rank, add a signature link with the phrase as the anchor text and get posting.

Monitor your results across search engines and see what happens.

    Ditto

but even you have thousands of sig links on different threads, pages of a forum, SE's counts them as 1.

Not sure i agree with you on that one.

Sure they won't count every link, just like G does'nt count every link from 'normal' links, but they will count more than 1 link per forum after all they index many pages from each forum.
