I was just wondering if search engines actually read the content inside tables, because on one of my sites there is large amounts of content embedded in tables and I was wondering if this would effect my search results and rankings?
Yep the search engine spiders will read the content in a table. Check a lynx viewer to see what a search engine spider reads. Use for instance this tool.. http://www.yellowpipe.com/yis/tools/lynx/lynx_viewer.php
If search engines didn't read content inside tables, the search engines would be practically empty...
Ya search engines do index your content in tables but make sure that you dont use too much tables in your site because it might effect your rankings. Akash Kumar
If you are ever unsure whether google will read the text within an element such as a table, DIV, or otherwise...Use a lynx viewer and google's cache of the text to make sure that the text is being read.
