Do search engines penalize you for redirects?

    Hi,
I think this is right section.

I want to move my site to another host and shopping cart but can't find any carts that allow me to use html extensions for category and product pages - at least the freedom to call them by a name of my choosing.

the problem this presents is all the traffic i get is organic and I have dozens of category pages, all of which get traffic.

So one of my possible solutions is to set up redirects with my host to direct every current category page to the new one my great shopping cart is going to give me. But will this see me get penailized by the search engines?

    Cheers
    Dean

I think these search engines wil not index your shopping cart pages so naturally
you may get less pages indexed than normal...so you may get a lesser ranking

    and not penalized

If you make sure you "301 redirect" those pages and not javascript redirect them or any other shady redirect, you will be fine.
