Compared to say a .com or .co.uk domain, will search engines rank info domains lower?

    Generally, no.

But there are thousands of link farm, spamming, MFA sites using .info which more cheaper than others. I think I would not use .info domains to start my business. :)

I think rankings would depends on how you optimized the site but not based on the extension of the domain that you used.

Search Engines like what subject part of a domain, than the extension part of it.

So it doesn't matter if it is .info or .com

However .com's are preferable as people tend to easily remember it. Building brand around .info is not a great idea.

It doesn't matter .info or .com, or... etc.
Search engines like quality sites with authority backlinks.
